so i see that wells are on special for 2.50?
yes sir they are.
sweet i'll have a well of bud light then. thanks so much. i'm very thirsty

You joke about this, but it actually happens a lot.

that's actually why i joke. somebody once ordered "one of those 2.50 wells" from me. i then asked for their ID. then they left.

I can count on one hand how many martinis I've actually made with gin. Everyone wants vodka. Including Mrs. Daris! :sdeek:

thank you.

even though i insulted your whisky knowledge.

basically i would drink all the stuff in glass bottles before moving on to the plastic bottles then finally aluminum cans

This sounds like a great strategy.

One issue I have is with tequila - is this a typical wedding liquor choice? What do you mix it with that isn't a margarita?

people enjoy it with orange juice but its not really a wedding drink, imo.

people always talk about "sipping tequila" and all it makes me want to do is punch them in the face and then stick a lime in their mouth.
Well that's just rough ridin' rude then.

yeah man she eats those things up and twice on sundays. literally has absolutely no idea what she was doing starting out though and only knew she really liked olives/olive juice. so i'd tried to coach her up on how to order etc, but it didn't really take. typical order from her...

"yeah i need a dirty vodka martini. really dirty but i don't want any of that other stuff in it. honey, what's that other stuff that i don't really like that they sometimes put in it. yeah vermouth that's it. no vermouth please and can i get extra olives. oh i don't know what kind of vodka do you have? do you have grey goose? honey what other vodka do i like? what do you have that's good?"

it's pretty painful but also somewhat endearing.

your guys' board, do whatcha want. your drink? i am genuinely curious. what're you gonna "pak" after finding the phone, or is that still boring?

Not sure here, but it's do whatever you want and I expect we'll watch at my place and I'll either finish the coors light in my fridge or go through all these assorted airline bottles and random almost-finished regular size bottles that have been on my kitchen counter for a while.

bottles of. . . ? (and coors light? really? whatever's clever.)

There's 2 crown royals that are disturbingly different colors, a smirnoff vodka, an absolut vodka, germ-x hand sanitizer and a couple drinks worth of one of those big plastic bottles of "admiral nelson."

Ever Mexican wedding, man? Tequila is a staple. You can mix it with coke (called a charro negro), you can mix it with any juice (my preferred is grapefruit w/shaved/crushed ice), you can sip it neat. For cryin' out loud, if you're on spring break in South Padre or some such hookup festival you can shoot it six ways to Sunday.

I answered tequila (I'll take mine reposado, neat, and just about anything but generic or Jose Cuervo: prefer Herradura or Jimador if you have 'em). If I want a changeup or to feel refreshed I'm going to a white tequila w/grapefruit juice (or just water, I KNOW, not on the list).

That being said, I really don't dislike ANY of the choices listed (do I have a problem?). In order of favorite to least favorite (but still pretty good):

Tequila > Bourbon > Scotch > Rum (if it's a Caribbean wedding, I'm going here first & probably all night long) > Vodka (if it's a Polish or Russian - even Ukrainian - wedding I'm going here first and as long as I can last) > Gin (hardly EVER drink this because other choices are usually readily available)

  Everybody!

I think I would totally mix it up. gin & tonic, scotch and water (because scotch sounds less white trashy than bourbon), and maybe a vodka lemonade which was suggested and sounds delicious. It also depends on the wedding. good grief what a poorly thought-out friday snack off.

I do that a lot, too. I mean, that's one of the perks of going out. You've got that whole damned bar to choose from. Why limit yourself?

I mix it up, but stick with one liquor as a base.

I've never actually had a martini. What's the most normal martini? I'd like to try it out.

Go to the nearest bar and order a "normal martini." Bartender will know what to do.

Think it was Rick Daris who mentioned the "rum & coke," but change it to "whiskey" instead of "rum." Along these lines, to me a vodka martini and a gin martini don't even taste like the same drink at all. I've never even TRIED vodka martini with vermouth (seems like it would clash with the vodka?). This is a deep liquor quandary for me to ponder!

i'd say a vodka martini is the most common (how much vermouth and olive juice is up to you), although, by definition, a martini is gin and vermouth with either olives or a lemon peel (thereareyouhappyrickdaris :shakesfist:)

but, once you get in to chocotinis and appletinis and other, similar gutter swill, well, the world is your oyster.

yeah, i don't even know if they exist in real life, i was just thinking about scrubs guy's favorite "martini". there are a seemingly endless supply of froo-froo 'tinis out there, though.

treat yourself tonight. they're a good way to kick off a binge. plus, trapper john drank them, and he was cool as eff. (the movie, not the shite tv show.)

I'm confused what you and michigancat are saying I was wrong about? Everyone was calling whiskey "bourbon". Bourbon, by definition, has to be distilled in Kentucky and more specifically, Bourbon County, Kentucky. So everyone should stick to calling the brown liquor "whiskey", since that applies to every brown liquor that has ever been distilled, unlike the term "bourbon" which applies to a much smaller amount.

people who drink clear liquors are little girly girls.
