OU scored 17 pts in 8 poss (3-4 3pt, 8-8 FT) after the under 4 timeout.

I get that it's shout the tourney and not conf standings. No moral victories. Yadayadayada.

But we all had hard ons when Frank had us in the top 4 every season. If we're getting into the tourney regardless, I'd much prefer to finish 2nd than 6th. Meaningless stat, yeah. But it still makes the season have a more positive feel to it. That's just me.

Because the depth of a conference is logically determined by how many teams can make the final 4.

Conf record and overall season >> tourney success, imo. The tourney is a crapshoot. You get far by being consistently good and earning good seeds, eventually it comes together for a big run.

top 4 of a 12 school conference is closer to top 3 of a 10 school conference than to the top 4 of 10. finishing in the top 3 in this year would be extremely impressive. finishing 4th would still be really good.
