Brad Underwood

Yep.  A few years at Austin WhatEver U and he will be the hire that makes sense to a football school.

I'll always love Dougie.

I'm sure this was discussed at the time, but how many times has a major program hired a coach with literally no coaching experience, and had it work out?  I can't even think of it happening before and not working.  Maybe Clyde Drexler at Houston?

saying hoiberg the mayor didn't coach while with the timberwolves' front office is a bit of a stretch but really though hiring someone with no experience at the high major level doesn't happen.

Is my perception that the NBA is more willing to take chances on guys with little to no coaching expereince than college a misconception?  I kind of think it isn't.  I mean, Phil Jackson coached a CBA team before getting the Bulls job, IIRC.

Played 13 years in the NBA though.  And had great success in the CBA and DenisClementeLand before becoming a Bulls assistant for a year or two.

underwood, pastrana & brooks are off to a great start at sfa.  i'd give them a shot.

The timing probably would work out right.  TeamWaitAndSee can get an eye full.  Brad can get some HC experience.  Both would be comfy with the change in a few yrs.

the learning curve on recruiting is a lot steeper than on coaching.  hoiberg hired otzelberger (seems to have made other good hires, also).

with locals like mokan/pnr you don't have to do anything right, you just can't do crap wrong like frank did.  the reality is that any coach worth hiring will make inroads into those programs with ease, it should be expected.

Refresh my memory...what's so great about mokan/pnr? How did Frank "do crap wrong" in relation to these programs?

Refresh my memory...1) what's so great about mokan/pnr? 2) How did Frank "do crap wrong" in relation to these programs?

1) They have High Major D1 3-5-star/fringe-to-legit NBA prospect players.

2) check with sys, but I think Frank pissed off Shannon Spradling, Ojeleye's fams and Suther for not recruiting/placing enough players/being a meanie

underwood helped stock mokan with good players which helped kstate recruit mokan players.  pnr hated underwood because of the same.  martin threatened to kill an ex mokan player and his family, which in retrospect was probably justified.
