I would guess that's it. There has been refernece to "rules" many times throughout the show (ben when he saw his daughter die, ben when talking to widmore, child jacob to badlocke) not sure if they are the same ones though. My guess is that it's a "free will" type thing so the rules are that you have to let the canidate decide.

I wonder if jacob and the man in black were canidates at one point in their "lives" as well. And they are both looking for canidates to replace them or something. BadLocke made refernces to being a human and then being betrayed. But he could just be spouting off a bunch of crap to get his way. That seems to be the M.O. of everyone on the island…the losties, the others, jacob, badlocke, etc.

I def think that badlocke is looking for a replacement as smokie. Not to nerd out too much, but I bet the smoke monster represents Death and that the person filling that job can change, but that there always needs to be someone acting as Death.

Prob the same for Jacob, only the other end of the spectrum.

Pretty good episode, just watched. The idea about Jacob and Smokey Dude looking for replacements is interesting. Saw that someone thinks the kid could be Aaron

Enjoyed the episode and am really starting to think I am going to be really pissed after watching the last one.

We've known that for 6 seasons....Jack IS the main character of the show, ya know....?

I don't think that he is as "important" as Walt. Walt was the main one targeted in the early episodes by the "others". He can make stuff appear by just thinking about it.

Sure Dez can run stairs and sail, but Walt can make pissed off polar bears appear on a tropical island. If picking a team, I would pick Walt.

Pretty solid episode tonight, i thought. starting to reveal the "good vs evil" thing a little bit more. I like that there seems to be a "good" group and an "evil" group, but the members of the group are mixed between characters we percieve to be good and evil...like kate & claire with the "evil" group while ben is in with the "good" group.

I actually didnt' like the episode at all. Thought it felt cheap and kind of campy.
