Thought it was ok.  Pretty much answered most of my questions.  Which is I guess what I wanted.  Maybe now I can enjoy the show without being pissed I don't know what is going on.

yeah.  was hoping for something deeper than a "god and free will vs. the devil and temptation" type thing.  but there's still time to dig into why jacob and the MIB really hate each other (I think they'll do this in episode 14 - The Canidate).  seems like MIB wants to get rid of all the canidates and get the hell off the island, though I'm not sure what he wants to do when he gets off the island.  maybe throw a killer keg party with tons hot chicks?

That is what I was kind of wondering.  What the hell is he going to do?  Being smoke monster would be a great party trick I guess.  Also wondering about "replacing" Jacob and how that works.  The more I think about it, the more questions this episode answered.  At least the ones I was curious about.  I am sure a lot of people are disappointed, but I am ok with it as that is kind of what I was thinking anyway.  I was getting pissed when they kept saying it was hell.  If they were serious, I would have lost it.

yeah, if it was hell or purgatory it would have been a waste of like 5 years of my life.  I almost think the writers did that to just f*ck with the audience, as the hell/purgatory theory was one of the first/most prevelant theories through the first few seasons.

  I thought this ep cleared up a lot of things.  I don't know what is going to happen or anything, I just know the purpose I guess. 

Do we know why/how the chick is so devoted to Jacob and where she came from?  I can't remember if they have told us that yet.  She kind of just appeared.  Did Richard know her?

decent episode considering it was 98% flashback.  just not much learned that you might not have already guessed.  would have liked to see more fill in the blanks between the time of the shipwreck and the time of the Dharma Init.

what we did learn:
jacob is not the devil
jacob can not absolve sins
jacob can not bring people back to life
island's purpose is to contain MIB (didn't we already partially know this)

question:
why if Jacob is dead can MIB not currently get off the island?

Widmore and smokey are prob pals now.  Widmore is more than likely still pissed at Jacob for being banished.  Still now sure why he wants to be back on the island so bad though. 

My question is, why they just don't kill smokey?  If Jacob can die, why can't he?

I don't know if they are pals.  I don't put up sonic fences to keep out my pals.   I'm under the assumption that Jacob is human-ish and the MIB is, while seen in a human form, a spirit-ish type being which I would assume can't be killed by conventional means.  I'm also under the assumptions that they are gods (small 'g') or deities who have been given "gifts" but also "curses" (i.e. Jacob can be killed, but only by "humans", but he can be a human....the MIB isn't human but can't be killed).  Just kind of basica mythological stuff.  I'm not sure the significance of the knife because Jacob was killed by a regular knife, not that special one that the MIB gave Richard (and that Doegen gave Sayid).

Good points.  That makes the What does Widmore want? question more interesting.  Wouldn't he know he isn't a candidate? So what does he want to do?  I am still curious as to why Jacob brought Desmond to the island.  Almost has to be something to do with Widmore

IMO, Widmore’s intentions seem to be his own side which is shaded towards Jacob’s side.  I think this because Illana’s group (who I think would be aligned with what Jacob wants) warned Miles that Widmore had bad intentions.  And since he’s putting up sonic fences, I can’t imagine that he’s on the MIB’s side.  I think, ultimately, he just wants to be the one who leads/has control over the island.  He wants the power like he did before Ben banished him.  I wouldn’t, however, be surprised if he is actually on the MIB’s side (the sonic fences are a con…which would tie into the episode “Recon”).  Maybe he and the MIB have a deal that if Widmore helps the MIB off the island, then he’ll give the Island to Widmore.

To me, Desmond has always been the wildcard.  I always thought that he was the character that tied the island to the losties.

I wonder if we will find out how the original MIB was killed.  Also if anyone else was the MIB before Locke became him.

If Jacob is dead, why doesn't he have the candidate to replace him set by now?  What is he waiting for?  Wouldn't that help keep MIB on the island?

I'm assuming that the finale (2 hours) will be a huge jacob/mib backstory.  there's gotta be more to their characters than "2 dudes on an island"

That is what I would think.  Pretty crazy how for 5 years we were wondering about a bunch of a-holes on an island, now I really could give a shazbot!.  I want to know if this Jacob and MIB have been around forever (we know it has been at least 150 or so years) or were there ones before them.  Agree that I don't understand why Jacob is waiting to "name" the candidate.  I know one thing, I didn't miss the flash whichever ways this week.  I guess this is all part of my, I don't care about anyone but Jacob and MIB anymore.  Desmond and Widmore are still kind of interesting I guess.

Been thinking. I think the island is simply a prison for whatever smokie is.

Didn't Smokie used to live under the temple?  I think Jacob was the guard, smokie escaped but is still bound to the island since you can only find it from one bearing, and the Dharma guys were something like an accident.

Thought about this when wondering what smokie will do when he gets off the island. Prolly some bad stuff.
