Question for any Keystone frequenters. I just got back from the mountain Friday (went for Spring Break) and it was ridiculously packed. I realized it would be busy but I did not anticipate the legions of toddlers riding down the green/blue runs in large packs (ski schools) which made it very difficult for me to teach myself to snowboard on said runs. I was afraid of losing control and colliding with one of them which would have probably resulted in their death. I only attempted boarding for a day and a half because of this, and I would like to try again. Is there a good time in the fall/winter season that is less crowded? I imagine it'd be bad around New Years but I have a hard time picturing it worse than it was this last week. TIA!

Early in the season, pre-Christmas time is pretty quiet.  May not have a lot of runs open tho.  Feb is pretty quiet with the exception of Pres day weekend.

If you just want to learn and not do anything above a green, Ski Granby Ranch is usually really quiet and cheap.  Not very exciting by any means but fine for very beginner things and not crowded.  Could do a couple days there and then hit Winter Park about 30 minutes away.
 Good info, I think we're going to try Early December this year for a long weekend or something.

Yeah, avoid major holidays. We typically try to go the weekend after MLK or Presidents day.

Breck/Keystone are always pretty busy but if you head to the back mountains/bowls the crowds are alot smaller and there are less kids.

Copper/A-basin normally aren't as busy and usually don't have masses of inexperienced skiers hitting the slopes.

O hay guize, asava here. Yeah, I ski a eff ton and am super good at it.

Do people even ski the main resorts these days? I haven't been in almost 5 years, the back country skiing(accessed by using a helicopter I charter or the creepy snow mobile van) is the only thing worth it.

In fact a bunch of my bro's from college went skiing a couple of months ago and invited me up. I really wanted to see them because they are super awesome and great guyz, but I just couldnt swallow my pride and share a slope with "Joe from Salina".

yeah, Asava is really rubbing it in.  If I could, I would don the spandex and get my cardio on in the back-country.  Hell, would probably pull a sled behind me to pick up my Sunday sundries at the trading post.  Might shoot a bear or 10 on the way home, dunno :dunno:  In the off chance that I miss, might take punish myself with a bit of superfluous skiing in circles.

Man, 'twould be the life.

nothing like skinning up to your campsite after a long day of hucking in the fresh fresh, and enjoying a cup of coffee you roasted yourself next to a fire that is cooking the deer you shot with your bow earlier that morning.

Speaking of naked people, we were riding the lift at Copper at around 11a.m. St. Pats day last week and there was a dude skiing down the mountain in his bday suit. Guy must've been binging all morning. While it was funny, there were loads of children around so his choice of location was poor.  :runaway:

switched to snowboarding this year. I don't recommend anyone as old as me learns to snowboard, but I made good progress.

I've only been snowboarding once. Anywho, I was night boarding at keystone and lost my balance and my right cheek planted and I slid. I thought I had been ripped open. Layed there a bit and finally checked for blood. None. But oh so painful.

Also I enjoyed having a beard covered in ice.

Also every car we shared someone was smoking up. No way i could do that and board.

I need to get back.

It's been a long, long time for me, but weed always just made me feel like being lazy. I think it would make me lose interest in doing any skiing.

One time I ran into a teammate on the slopes, he was high AF and boarding like crap.  Then I saw him a few weeks later and he was all "dude did you see me I was tearing it up."  "No you weren't, you spent half the night on your ass."  "Really?  Oh."

Hahahaha. It was so much fun though. The night scene was a bit lame. As soon as a local woman found out I was from out of state, she dipped out. Was drunk one night and had money to burn so I called an escort service. 500 for a half hour. Yuck.

Still an amazing time all the way around.
