Lawrence, Kansas has been hailed as one of the great college towns, with the city's bars supplementing KU's Greek and unaffiliated communities.

KU's co-eds gained some notoriety this year for a Twitter account featuring revealing pictures of Kansas fans' cleavage, yet another way students support the Jayhawks.

KSU students love their school, due in large part to the plethora of sports, both intramural and their Wildcat athletic teams.

Students head off campus to take advantage of "Aggieville" — a throwback to KSU's original mascot — which is an area of Manhattan, Kansas packed with college bars.

It was really neat to see Lawrence finally get some recognition.  I mean sure Aggieville, but the allusion to the ku bewbs thing....

yeah. they have to be pretty stoked. i tell you what though, i went to ku for grad school and lived in lawrence for a while afterwards and have always maintained that ku is closer to k-state than a lot of k-staters would want to admit. this confirms my thoughts.

agree with rick daris here. a lot of people say Lawrence just sucks complete ass and Manhattan is great but in reality Lawrence is almost as good as Manhattan.

Can confirm.  I also lived in Lawrence for a few years, and it is not as bad as K-Staters make it out to be.

Lawrence does have quite a few more national chains that my in laws from the suburbs enjoy.  It is a bit harder to get them to see the charm of a great Manhattan, KS establishment like the Chef or Rock-A-Belly but they really enjoy going to Lawrence and shopping and eating on Mass St. with those familiar places they see in the Chicago land strip malls.

Most prefer the smaller town charm of local businesses though, as is reflected in the ranking.  It is no diss on Mass St. or Lawrence, just that it certainly appeals to a different, suburban demographic.  Manhattan, KS is just a little bit different.  I think MHK is more authentically local, but obviously Lawrence is great for out of towners unfamiliar with the local fare and just looking for a quality chain.

yeah i think we've talked about this before and how it did take about a year to acommodate to because of how much dirtier than manhattan it was. way better than topeka though.

One of the reasons I love Lawrence is that you can really experience big city problems like poverty, homelessness, and drug addiction without getting on an airplane.

But seeing now seeing Lawrence on the list, well, it just gives you a warm feeling doesn't it?

Like some other posters, I struggled a little getting used to living in Lawrence.  This was pre twitter t1ts tho, so it sounds like they have found that "spark" that was missing.

Lots of great chains tho, and you get tons of exercise walking between the diversely spread out bars!
