Agreed. The idea is that eventually kids will guard diff and there won't need to be as many calls.
As for the why, the game has gotten crazy physical of late. I personally thought it was fine, but can understand why some see that as bad.
I personally felt like the allowed contact leveled the playing field for teams not used to being NC candidates in that you can recruit kids that are athletic and play hard defense without having to out recruit Cal, Self, Izzo, etc. The problem is that you end up with a product where a PG has to handle the ball like a running back on a layup until it is actually time to lay it in due to all the bumping, slapping, and stripping attempts.
