Jesus Christ Wacky, of course he's selfish, all high achievers are. I don't think anyone is better at my job than me. If my board of directors decided that I have to sit and watch someone else do my job I'd be pissed too. I have always felt that people who insist that athletes be humble are low achieving losers, or are liars that lack self-awareness, or think athletes are chattel who should not be allowed to play by the rules set forth by our society.

It's kind of weird that we want coaches to be humble (in the sense that we want them to realize quickly what isn't working and change).  Maybe we could ask the same of athletes?  Foster could just not suck.  I mean, that doesn't take being humble.  It takes just not sucking. 

I'm not defending oscar for how he is handling Foster, and I was furious for Frank's stupid rough ridin' proving point games that really didn't do crap.

I don't want anyone to be humble. Being self-assured and flexible are extremely mutually exclusive. Every good coach or any kind of good manager I can think of is flexible.

I really don't care what is done as long as it gets fixed. I hated Frank's point proving benchings, too, but he never really had a problem with effort on the court. Foster's been sorta benched for three straight halves and looks like he cares even less than he did before.

I noticed no difference in play from before and after Frank's benchings.  It's stupid.  And i'll state again, the primary problem with this team is not effort, it's talent.  Effort is a component, but they....just...suck.

I don't think, that Frank benched to get better effort, I think his message was more "you're not doing what I asked and I don't rough ridin' need you," which imo is why never did that to best player. oscar is openly telling everyone that Marcus' effort is the reason why he is benched. I don't know how Marcus could get any other message other than "this is your fault."

I don't think we're great, but I think effort matters some. I think Frank preached effort as a skill that had to be developed and I think it worked. But yeah, we have glaring weaknesses, especially at point guard.

Seems like foster got his ass kissed a bit too much this summer. Now he thinks he is too good to listen to the staff.  His body language says a lot. I'm not putting losses on him or anyone in particular. Just on fans opinion.

He's a high level athlete, he's gotten his ass kissed his entire life. He knows the team isn't playing well, himself included, but now he is being scapegoated. You and oscar are seeing poor play and jumping to conclusion that playing poorly equates to him having a poor attitude. He very well may have had a bad attitude before the 2nd half benching against Georgia. If he did it is up to the staff to get him figured out. I think it was pretty foreseeable that treating one of the best players in the conference like some 8 minute a game player would backfire. Who the hell deals with a frustrated star player by benching him?

It's safe to assume that oscar has more insight into Foster's attitude/effort than you, me, and slucat, but I am inclined to agree with slucat here that Foster's ego (or at least his perception of his clout in CBB) has grown considerably since last year.  My first clue was Foster flailing his arms and flopping on threes against Arizona and glaring at the refs incredulously when he didn't get Jordan/Lebron calls.  Actually...my first clue might have been in the offseason when he confessed to the media that (paraphrasing) KU was his dream school and that the lack of a KU offer is his biggest source of inspiration.  I mean...who says that?  Weird.

Either way, I'm all for Brucing oscar mid-season if this crapfest sails dank and steamy for another 5 games or so.  It's pretty clear that most of his players don't want to play for him (which I'm not sure I get, frankly), and there's probably no way to fix that.

Unless he changes, he will see very limited play. Coach has drawn the line in the sand, and either he steps up to it or he will sit.

Sounds like oscar recognizes he was about to have a huge fracture in his team, and is trying to stop the crack.

Don't go overboard. Gip has given great effort, M Harris has been a maniac defensively, Westicles and Edwards play hard (especially recently), Nino does too usually. And say what you will about Jevon, he "gives 110%."  I can't tell with Hurt. He could be trying hard, but his game is incredibly soft.

Players having an inflated sense of self is not an occurrence at all. How would most 19 year olds react to bring gassed up? oscar has coached for two decades, he's absolutely seen that before. I hire 19 year olds and deal with it every year.

Also not sure why you don't get the players having difficulty playing for oscar, it certainly isn't a new issue. That very issue got him fired from Illinois, Brandon Paul.

Now, while I don't want to simply pile on Weber because the Illini are suddenly winning again, there was a quote from Brandon Paul in Jon Greenberg's column -- which is good and you should read the entire thing after you're done here -- about John Groce that stood out to me. While Paul doesn't come out and say anything directly, if you read between the lines of what he was saying about John Groce it becomes pretty damning of oscar Weber and the coaching staff last season.

Paul was asked about why this team was able to get back up after being knocked down to the ground this season, unlike last year when it stayed on the mat.

"The coaches never gave up on us," Paul told Greenberg. "They want to see us succeed. They said, we've had this rough stretch but gotta fight through it. No one on the team gave up on each other."

Why are other players just now looking to the seniors for leadership? If true doesn't this confirm that these issues are far beyond just Marcus?
