I remember trying to force myself to like St. Anger after I walked up-hill both ways to Hastings to buy it. "Oh, no Kirk solos?  Well that's... I guess they're trying to do something..different..."  St. Anger made me fall out of love with MetallicA.

I don't really consider MetallicA a heavy metal band.

I don't either. I mean I guess they have some stuff that probably qualifies. Generally, if the song is pleasant to listen to in any way whatsoever, it's probably not metal.

That was the first Metallica album I bought with my own money. I've got a bit of an attachment do it due to that, but even I know it should be last. His reasoning for putting it above DM is a crock of crap too.

Reload is easily better than load. LML is what inspired me to learn the bag.

I guess it's obvious by now but this is a no brainer. A friend of mind once told me that he owned this album for months before he listened past the first track. He was afraid the other songs weren't going to be as good as "Battery." Fortunately, he was an idiot.

generally it's because people can't get it through their thick skulls that load and reload weren't metal albums. I really like reload. fixxxer was a favorite tune of young mh and his junior high buds, and might have been the track playing during the opening credits of a stop-action lego movie they made.

I'm not an expert on Metallica by any stretch. In fact I had to youtube half the songs he was talking about as he went through the list. The writer was spot on with the NWOBHM style early, and basically everything he said that I saw. Agreed with laughing at people who say they sold out on the self-titled, and the grunge comments as well.

Their are few things worse than "fans" bemoaning the evolution of a musician(s).

I'm actually at my parent's house tonight. I'll see if I have it. One of the other guys might have ended up with it, though. We were really into Kung Pow! at the time, so there might even be some extra scenes with the camera focused on a muted TV, playing kung fu movies while we dub them over with our own dialogue.

The majority of Metallica's work is considered thrash or speed metal. Maiden, Sabbath and Motorhead are heavy metal...
