This doesn't really seem like a case of "the man" overreaching to you, does it?

How much money is the federal government missing out by keeping drugs illegal? Billions upon billions?

Not even counting how much money they would save in enforcement. Before prohibition taxes/tariffs/fee's on alcohol accounted for 75% of the federal budget, I'm really surprised no one has pushed for legalization on revenue generation alone.

I'm in the mountains.  There seems to be a pretty good pak contingent in Denver the couple times I've been down for game.  Wash Park Tavern is the go to spot.  Good chance I've moved on come spring '15 tho

There's tons of cats out here.  Pak spot since I've been here has been Highland Tap and Burger.  There was probably 100+ for the Texas game.

I'm pretty sure you're right, I just remembered it wrong.  Was out for TCU game last year and Tourney games the year before.  Fun, young alumni base.

I'm in the Winter Park area.  Got a few inches and it stuck around a couple days.  Going to be a crazy winter if the precipitation keeps up.

Someone the other day mentioned the farmer's almanac and how it said this winter is going to be crazy.  Could be right with the amount of rain we've had and looking at what happened up in Wyoming.  Should be interesting.

The drug war is a revenue generator as well, genius.

Of course I'm serious.  The prison system and the law enforcement system rely on the drug war.  Where do you think the money goes every time someone gets arrested for drug possession, or gets pulled over for a DUI?  Look, I agree with everything you said.  I'm just pointing out that there are reasons why we haven't legalized drugs yet.  The prison industrial complex is a real problem in this country.

As for your initial question, there are estimates that the government loses out on around $47 billion/yr in tax revenue.  Marijuana alone would generate around $8.7 billion/yr.
