Counterfactual: This team is 4-0 with Sams starting
« on: October 05, 2013, 07:46:17 PM »
He would have learned to close out games with the very first matchup.  A solid team would have tested Sams enough to let him learn who to count on (ie develop faster with T Miller giving us 4 wideouts), what parts of his skill set are best for closing out games, and would position our coaching staff to realize he is a closer.

If he is allowed to toss in the first few games, he dominates Texas and has a solid day.  TLBL would not only have had a career night, he would have had even more stats piled on.  Because of the Texas D needing to respect Sams as a runner and a thrower, they have to give equal treatment to Lockett, Thompson, a host of other wideouts stretch the Texas secondary to the past the breaking point and the run game isn't so god damn horribly transparent. Hubert actually gets meaningful carries to extend drives and Sams on his keepers smashes through wide open holes as LBs and DBs are forces to respect his ability to hit WRs.

We go into OSU with a positive mind set ready to play.  The first drive is  TD instead of fizzle and from there out the entire complexion of the game is radically different.  Sams isn't rushing to make plays.  He is doesn't toss horrid interceptions because he has already learned where the ball needs to be.  The offensive line has no false starts because they know his cadence (see 3rd and 4th qt).

please look up definition of counterfactual

Edit: I'm honestly pissed about how much our coaching staff continues to mishandle player development.  This is one of the biggest aspects of Bill's failures from before.  The reliance of diamonds in the rough is one thing, but the complete and total failure in setting players up to win is going to doom round two.  If you want to see what Sams could be, look at FSU's Winston.  He coaches set him up from game one with better game plans that worked his skill set into a dominant performance today.  Now Sams could have been an even faster starter with a year in program if these coaches had recognized what they were dealing with at least out of summer practices.  The bullshit that we know he can pass well, he does it in practice and then never letting him throw set him up for failure today.

Give it up Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!). You wanted Sams to play a complete game, he did. He sucked. You were wrong. Is he better than Jake right now? No, they are pretty much equal. Will he be better than Jake? Yes.  Right now he sucks and you were completely and utterly wrong.  We would probably be 2-3 right now if he and Jake had reversed roles. He should still be the starter thought because he has 3 years of eligibility left and a higher upside.

there was a time I melted down more (infamous meltdown at that).  I've learned to be pissed, don't blame amature players, blame coaches who are paid to lead for failures, try to approach things with a level head and then look on the bright side, we still have Sams and Lockett.
