Paul Ryan is part of the problem, though.

Paul Ryan nails it, as usual:

Quote
The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that "the buck stops here." Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

Paul Ryan is part of the problem, though.

Sorry, that was Barack Obama in 2006.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

I'm not sure what's funniest about this graph. The fact that Rachel Maddow is Beems' best source he can find, the fact that the 2009 debt is attributed entirely to the GOP, or the "projected" for 2013.

Edit: crap, I just broke my own rule about ignoring Beems. Sorry everyone. Won't happen again.

Treasury Predicts that the final Budget Deficit will be between $760 and $800 Billion.

In August the Federal Government spent $148 billion more dollars than it took in.

Democratically controlled Congress.

Cue Beems claiming that Democrats are never responsible for anything.

Both Republicans and Democrats are responsible.  Unlike you, I think independently of some falsely contrived dichotomy of right and left.  Hell, I'm even able to admit that President Clinton planted the seeds for the financial crisis when he repealed Glass-Steagall back in '99.

I do think that Congress has, or at least should have, a greater impact on the federal budget than the president. That is I personally don't really like the figure, but a figure showing surpluses and debts based upon who is in office really should extend the president's influence to the year after he leaves office, as the incoming president has absolutely nothing to do with the budget for that year.

I've been discussing the fake left/right paradigm for years.

This administration is all over the map, the NYT had an article yesterday about how even hardcore Dems are growing more frustrated.

True, which is why I've said all along that Obama is a lot more moderate than his haters give him credit for.

That's really been my point all along.   I mean Wall Street loves this guy, but remember the ferver from 2008, how Obama was going to "get" Big Oil and Wall Street.

This is why I laugh at Obamabots.

In terms of his Foreign Policy, it's pretty much PNAC with fewer boots on the ground, but as Glenn Greenwald said a year or two ago, Obama may be the best "weapon" the PNAC true believers ever had.

Obama is a Neo-Con. No different than Bush or McCain. That's not to say that they're all incredibly Liberal (non moderates).

":dunno:" is right. Not only were those spending levels set by an overwhelmingly Dem Congress, but Obama also tacked on an extra couple hundred billion to boot that year.

Anyway, back to the point at hand, I agree with President Obama back when he was a senator and was critical of raising the debt ceiling. The debt ceiling should be used as it was intended to be used: leverage to curtail spending. If Congress simply continues to raise it as a matter of course, then it is pointless.

Add Home Depot to the list of employers who are ditching healthcare benefits due to ObamaCare.

I'm glad at least one party is still fighting to gut this crap heap of a law.

Another 20000 without healthcare that will probably just pay the tax and hope nothing goes wrong. Thanks Obama.
