I don't expect the 4-3 base linebackers to be the same as the nickel linebackers.

Yep, we will be in nickel for at least 2/3 of our snaps this year. I think we can find two serviceable linebackers out of that bunch.

I don't see slaughter playing in the nickel package. Moore and Johnson are better suited for spread offenses.

Some of my thoughts: Walker at SAM indicates the staff sees him about as they did last year before the injury and makes me think our LBs may struggle. Rose, I know Snyder likes the kid, but really? Have to assume it's a nod to a system kid and Robinson and Leverett will see time early on (this is fluid, I hope). Brown and Johnson making the 2 deep is impressive (though maybe scary).  Think about this, if we could have held on to Spaight and Campbell is there any doubt they would be the starters? Someone on here said a cross between the 2010 and 2011 defense is likely.  I tend to think we'll be okay because we have a lot of experience even if it isn't from past starters.  Still, not entirely sure we won't see multiple bumps to the "Will the 2013 Defense Be a Disaster Thread" throughout the season.

i think we will be  a decent (not as decent as last year) scoring defense that gets ruthlessly exposed between the 20s but tightens up in the red zone where lb speed isnt as important

our recruiting is so bad that blake slaughter redshirted last year, apparently he or the coaches knew we wouldn't be able to find anyone better out on the recruiting trail so what the hell, we'll just have a senior (who sucks) redshirt and start next year.  how does this happen?  how?  i mean how could this happen?  am i the only person who finds this appalling?

There was some ass clown on this board who was very adamant that Meshack and Davis were system players with average athleticism, and that whatever bodies we threw out there would be able to come close to matching their production. I can't remember who it was or what thread it was in, and I'm too lazy to look it up.

Tre walker has spent his career at wlb and is now listed at SLB.  He's going to be one of our two every down lbs this year.

As for chaquill reed I have no idea if he's any good or not but people were saying the same kind if crap about john sua and javonta Boyd last year and they played pretty well.  Every year we have several guys step up and come out of nowhere.
