I didn't remember those renderings being so lolawful.  Snap-on facade!

The funniest thing was the design was like a theatre but only watching football through a big glass.   It was horrific in concept.

Letter to the editor: Stadium not worth it

I must confess that I was deeply confused by the Journal-World’s recent editorial “Much needed football upgrade,” which seems to claim that a $300 million football stadium upgrade would be a sound financial investment. The editorial brushed over the fundamental problem with Kansas football: it sucks, and aside from one surprise season nine years ago, has sucked for my entire life.

The editorial compared KU to Iowa State, which sells twice as many home tickets as KU. But it neglected to mention that Iowa State, while also a terrible football program, has almost twice as many wins over the past five years as KU, and nonetheless only brought in $9.4 million in ticket sales in 2015. Even if half of those sales were due to the stadium, which is doubtful, it would be worth only $4.7 million a year, a measly 1.5 percent annual return. That won’t even cover interest.

A stadium upgrade won’t turn Kansas into Iowa State, and it wouldn’t be worth it if it did. If finances were the driving consideration, KU would cut its football program altogether rather than keep throwing good money after bad.

Someone talk that guy off the ledge.  He thinks Iowa State's football program is out of reach.

I agree with Jhawkin27. I think SEMO is a W, and I think we beat CMU, but Ohio could be a deciding turn in the development of this team. Win and you are looking at a 4 maybe 5 win season. Lose and you are fighting to get to even 3 wins.
If we win at Ohio this September, I think we are going bowling in 2018.

Ohio plays at Purdue a week before us, so that will be a good opportunity to see how they fare against a team similar to KU.
Ohio lost their QB, 2 or 3 starting OL, and their top 3 receivers. They also lost almost all of their DL from last year.
If we can't outscore them this year with all the added talent (Bender, Charlot, Baldwin, etc) then that will be a huge disappointment.

That ooc schedule is hot garbage. :sdeek:

Question: why would beating Ohio help them win a conference game or two?

Their goal is improvement. That is 3 wins. They don't have to win any conference games to achieve it. Blue wings rising.

Honest question.

If they do show pretty solid improvement this year/next, does Beatty immediately leave for another job? He seems like the sleazy type that will treat our TSC bros like stepping stones.

Or will he be there for a long time after they get this thing turned around?

I think they're going to struggle with CMU, winning a road game (for the first time in a decade) against a team that completely manhandled them last year seems like a pipe dream.

How are these guys in this conference? They wouldn't win 6 in the MAC.

Guys, they lost to everyone. Minus the worst FCS team in 2016 and a shitty Texas squad.

Yeah, but getting dominated at home against a middling MAC team (who apparently lost to cmu) is a special kind of lolshitty.

Holy crap, Ohio buttfucked them last year.

:sdeek:

I watched that game (at least the first half) cause IIRC we had an off week. That first half Ohio pretty much at will did what they wanted against ku, it was pretty sad.

Guys, they lost to everyone. Minus the worst FCS team in 2016 and a shitty Texas squad.

The hangup I would still have if I was a ku fan thinking it was some giant turning point (which maybe it'll be) is Texas:

-Turned the ball over 6 times (including 1 of them being in OT)
-It took OT for ku to win

That is not to diminish that ku did in fact, win the game, but Texas basically did everything they could to give the game away. but it's very similar IMO to the ISU/Nubbs game where nubbs turned it over 8 times, and only lost 9-7.
