OP premise is pure and total bulls hit.  KU can be relevant again but it will require profound change.  Again, I've said it before and I'll keep saying it until the change happens:

THERE IS NO 70 YEAR OLD WOMAN ON PLANET EARTH WHO KNOWS HOW TO LEAD A BIG XII UNIVERSITY'S FOOTBALL PROGRAM.  BGL needs to step down and let younger blood take the helm.

Football in a Power 5 conference = revenue.  I'm really not sure why our leadership team keeps missing this.

The only member of the trio of Chancellor, AD and Head Coach who could possibly right the ship is Zenger...and that's only if he can actually hire that coach which has eluded KU since Mason.  'That coach' means a guy who can immediately come in and at least get the players he inherited to score a touchdown.  A real coach could figure out real quick if Cozart has the football IQ to complete forward passes to guys wearing the same jersey.  And if Cozart is indeed too stupid to figure such complex stuff out then perhaps he should simply line up on special teams and maybe make an impact there, because God knows, that squad is somehow even worse than his goose egg generator of an offense.

Look at Baylor for facks sake...and look at the quick turnaround that followed when they hired Art Briles.  He took them bowling in his third season so anyone thinking Charlie needs more time is drinking loser-ade.  Being a head coach in the Big XII is like being in sales.  If you consistently miss the mark then you get fired.  You may be a swell guy who has bright, shiny rings...it's performance driven.

Charlie Weis cannot identify college talent.  He proved it at ND, Florida and now KU.  A young, hungry Texan with a Texas talent pipeline would lay a foundation.  At this point, it is understood that neither Gill or Weis knew what the fack they were doing, so I don't see the OP premise happening.  The right coach won't be thinking of getting fired.  A young guy who can match talent to an offense based on their abilities could win in short order.

You guys are missing a very important, key point so far.

KU IS NOW THE PLACE WHERE SNYDER 2.0 CAN AND WILL EMERGE.  Pundits will write with gory details about multi-year losing streaks, a pathetic track around a stadium, which itself was built by guys who were probably shooting at Krauts two years earlier in the War to End All Wars.  KU is now ground zero for a young, energetic football fundamentalist who will bypass the preaching and simply do what needs to be done in Lawrence...and that's win.  KU is not where careers go to die, it is now the crucible from which a GD man of a head coach will emerge AND FINALLY WIN SOME F UCKING FOOTBALL GAMES!!!!1

"KU IS NOW THE PLACE WHERE SNYDER 2.0 CAN AND WILL EMERGE. "

That's where they fail. Instead of mimicing everything KState does, they need to carve their own identity. Doubt it ever happens.

They're talking about Dave Doren, lol

I'm very surprised he got fired before Brady.

they just don't understand the process, chuck was molding cozart into a winner, it's hard to grow as an individual when your mentor gets removed from your life by administration :frown:

Malzahn would still be in Larryville. Let's not blow the hire this time around Hawks, again...

What would be the motivation for anyone to take the HC job at KU?  I doubt KU can offer much money at this point.

they have money.  they paid Charlie about 2.5m.  I'd imagine they could get a good coach for that or even 2.0M.  Dave Doeren's salary at NC State is around 1.9M. there is literally  no reason they can't get someone good.  weis was a big WTF hire.  they simply can't eff it up that badly again.

ku is a good opportunity because it isn't like Bill has made us into some monster.  we're vulnerable, especially considering bill's age and the fact he's retired once already and has said he's going to retire at some point.  the state has available juco players to infuse immediate talent and close enough to TX and OK to find some guys.  also, you'll get paid.

They need to get someone in that can land a bunch of these guys immediately.  The talk over at the phog this year has been about how crappy their roster is going to be after this season

yes, they do.  i'm terrified they would hire him.  I don't know if he'd be a good coach or whatever, but i'm fairly certain he (and his staff) would punish our recruiting (even moreso than it already is).

Wouldn't think a real up-and-comer would go there. Definitely need to make a Huggy hire of someone with baggage. So Venebles, Leach or Tressel.
