They should be able to have nice things. Why won't they? For a while now, I have blamed Self. I figured that anytime a booster or administrator said anything about money for sports, Self pushed the BB team in front and took it all. However, this problem seems like it has much more history than Self.
Managing a competent collegiate football program has been almost as challenging for KU as it's been for us. They didn't have much incentive to improve when K-State was a perennial doormat, and when we did start winning, they fell behind. Their mixed luck in head coach hires has cost them momentum as well, but there's no reason that KU can't become the premier Div I football program in the state. They just have to spend an awful lot of money, and that WILL rub Massa Seff the wrong way.
