Are we as bad now as KSU was back then?

K-State had 30+ years with only 2 winning seasons, and no season above 6 wins. This is also at a university at the time had alot less revenue coming in and a town that offered next to nothing for recruits.

KU has had 6 years of historically bad football. A beautiful campus and fun college town. An athletic department tyat brings in alot of revenue and a market that brings in 3rd most tier 3 revenue in the conference.

K-state in 89 was by far the tougher rebuild. Especially in an era without the social technology we have now. It was alot tougher to get exposure for the program and recruit.

The one thing that makes Beaty's job harder is expectations from the fan base. KSU fans had no expectations at all. We have had an Orange Bowl within the past decade. KU fans will be far more impatient than KSU fans were, but the Warlock's job was tougher from most other aspects.

We're not nearly as weak as K-State was in 1989. In addition having no history of success in football at all, they we're coming off a 1988 season that was historically awful, even by K-State standards. They went 0-12, and didn't lose a single conference game by less than 11 (that 11 point loss was against ISU at home, which about 10,000 fans saw live).  Excluding the Nebraska game (for which the crowd was undoubtedly around 75% NU fans), they didn't have a single home game that was attended by over 30,000 people.  In five non-NU home games the average attendance was about 18,000.

Our attendance was super-****** last season but we still averaged 34,000 per home game. We also had three wins against a more difficult schedule and a couple of very competitive games against #16 Oklahoma State and #5 TCU.

 
The problem in 2015 vs. 1989 is that the competitive landscape has changed so much. In 1989 you had Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Colorado that were good, and a bunch of dormant programs comprising the remainder of the Big 8. It was relatively easy to leap-frog the other bottom-feeders + schedule four non-con creampuffs and cobble together enough wins to get to a bowl game.  KSU also benefitted from OU going through a down period in the mid-90's, and Colorado declining after McCartney left. There's so much more money at stake (and being spent by virtually everyone) in 2015 that it's easy to fall behind even if you're trying hard, which is what's happened at KU. The middle of the conference is much stronger than 1989, which makes it harder to fight your way up to a bowl game.

Why didn't he list KU as schools in danger of holding it for 2016? I count 7 wins in the past 3 years. Also, didn't they only record 9 wins in the last 4 years?

If your best win is against the '07 Cats, you're schedule is monumentally weak.  KU was weaker than Texas, OU, Moo, and probably Tech in '07.  KU fans are in denial if they think they were anything more than the 4th or 5th best team in the Big 12 that year.

That's not true. KU played a top-25 team that year ... they just lost to them.

and VT was a top 10 team...you forgot to mention that. oh..and kstate was #24 when we beat them.
