As a moderate, I love the idea of scientists and universities as non-partisan stewards of knowledge that keep personal political biases personal. Same for the media, but I don't hold out much hope for either.

Taking man-made global warming out of the picture, what are some other examples of scientists' personal political biases affecting their science?

Nothing says anti-science like asking NASA to focus on manned space flights back to the moon and to explore establishing a base on the moon (which would likely facilitate missions like capturing asteroids and likely moving on to Mars).   

Even one of the Dems quoted in the article said they weren't that enthused by NASA's presentation about capturing the asteroid,  but it appears that the resident Obamabot lemmings think that a gov't agency can just show up with some half ass uninspiring plan and legislators are just supposed to throw open the checkbook and hand over a blank check.
