Well this is really long overdue, but it's time for a thorough review of the facilities that are about a mile from SB's house.

TULANE PURPLE WAVE auction company

We're gonna start with the basketball arena, which I saw firsthand when I went to a game there two seasons ago. Did I say arena? Definitely just meant gym. It's probably 90 years old and was recently renovated, maybe two years ago. I mean obviously it's pud city, but it's a little bit adorbs and feels kinda cool if you tuck in your green wave shirt super hard and embrace the "Ahearn echo" aspect of it. Plus, you're almost guaranteed to get in for less than three dollars at any game, making it a great outing for you and your little youngster, and you can go sit pretty much wherever the hell you want. I guess what I'm saying is it's terrible.

BUT THEY HAVE THIS GUY!!!  :D

Blur city in this photo, sorry aboot that. Probably blurry because the bleachers were shaking from the tremendous amount of NOISE!!!

A history so pathetic that they honor the team that bounced a Dana Altman-led qhatz from the first round of the NCAAs at the Orlando O-rena. I wouldn't fault them for this except I hold sports grudges for many decades, so Tulane can just go suck an egg and prepare to have their facilities absolutely reamed by a guy nerding out about stadiums on his computer!  :don'tcare:

In this photo we see the Tulane students section, moments before tipoff. Notice the elite jumbotron in the background.

Not trying to be creepy but this guy was so amazeballs I had to get his picture. Dat helmet!  I would equate him to one of the "ref shirt guys" guys in the front row of K-State huupz student section back in the day.

Wave hello to the Tulane band!!! They look small right now, but shortly after halftime about ten more members showed up.

See? Now we're groovin'.

It's honestly kinda cute. :babywillie:

You guys want access to elite donor accommodations? Well allow me to interest you in The Wave Cave.  Located in two of the four top corners of this gym, there are a few seats that look sorta comfy I guess and also all the Sprite you could ever hope to drink. (Limit 20 Sprites, please.) And there's a trash can, which is great in case you have something you need to throw away. Wave Cave is for super elite Angel-level donors and may not include access during games because we couldn't find anyone who wanted to pick up Terry's shift that night.

Press row, maybe? Hopefully you don't get stuck behind that beam. :frown:

Hey, why not? Let's just store all our stuff here during the games and make the players walk around it on their way to the lockerroom at halftime.

Tulane Bat Waves actually have a pretty elite home. Definitely the finest athletic facility at the school (not hard), at least until this football stadium is complete.

They won a natty in the early to mid 90s or something and obviously they're still riding high on that. Elite green seats in the stadium, palm trees over the fence, and cranes in the background building their new fooboo stade. What more could you want in a setting?

Have you guys noticed that a lot of elite-ish college bayball stades have a press box that is elevated higher than the top row and sorta pitched forward? Kinda scary-lookin'. A little intimidating. I bet opposing teams look up at the from the field and get a li'l nervous.

This photo is moved slightly to the left to show that there are in fact TWO light posts. You know I gots to have my light porn. :excited:

Decent to good scoreboar--wait a minute. Is there a football team and/or marching band using the outfield as a practice field? Come on Tulane, have some self-respect. This is almost Northwestern'y in its embarrassing-ness.

Guys I'm not going to even post pictures of Tulane games played in the Superdome because it will only make you really sad. I went to one against ECU in like '09 and I left feeling really bad about myself. :frown: They've fallen so far. DID YOU KNOW that Tulane football used to be big? It's true. They played in the SEC up until 1966, when they left to be independent. :frown: :frown: :frown: And they used to play in what was at the time an enormous stadium that seated over 72,000. And they regularly filled it, apparently. Or maybe not. But either way it was huge and badass and it hosted three Super Bowls and a gazillion Sugar Bowls and then it got condemned.

Look at this thing. They used to have it so good.

If you're interested in finding out more about this then I recommend you check out the wikipedia page on Tulane Stadium. Unlike the stadium, the wiki page is NOT condemned. :frown:

BUT GUESS WHAT!!!

I've had an eye on this construction for a while because I drive by it on my way to work every day, but it's hard to see from the road. It's tucked behind the bat wave stadium and even if you walk up to it everything is fenced off. It's about as on-campus of an on-campus facility as you will ever see. There's like one parking spot max. Which is why a bunch of the uppity rich neighbors with actual mansions up against the property line fought really really hard for them to not build this stadium. A lot of them put signs in their yards that said, "30,000 people: where will they all park?!?" And it's like, HEY PEOPLE:

A) They're never filling that thing, are you kidding?
B) Do you think everyone who goes to football games drives? And drives solo, for that matter?
C) Pretty much the only people who will give a rip are students and they'll just walk from their dorms so shut your dumb faces and stop trying to be the levee against the momentum of this green wave. Levees in this town don't stand a chance, dorks.

YOU GUYS READY FOR SOME CRANES???

So here's what it's gonna look like. Kind of a weird design especially for such a little stadium but overall I think it's gonna be pretty badass. I'll save a review of the actual facility for when I can go to a game there and take pictures from the inside (it debuts in week 2 against Georgia Tech!). Here's what it will look like, though. Oh and btw you can learn more at www.yulmanstadium.com

I think this is gonna be the smaller side of the sideline bleachers. It's kinda weird. That side will only go up like 15 or 20 rows before it becomes press box. Was supposed to be way higher but the neighbors thought it would make way too much noise. I mean gmafb. It's Tulane football, these games aren't getting loud. Sick of this.

*edit* might be end zone. Can't tell.

Their lighting systems are honestly a weird mixed bag. Part of them are these tall Bishop Stadium'y guys and then others that you'll see later are very very elite-looking.   p. weird combo.

Construction cats! Tell me what's going on here. Besides that BAD (Big-ass duct! )

Anyone getting an egress boner yet? Honestly I think they should swap this with the aisles from Bramlage because these aren't actually all that wide for a football stadium imo. Should probably just trade with OOD straight up.  Paging dax.

Don't forget that Sunday is Senior Day at The 'Plex.

One of the only angles you can see into the stadium through the fence. Is this guy on a Bobcat, or did the West Stadium renovation reserve exclusive rights to those things? Look how low to the ground that press box is LMAO. Hey ESPN 9, hope your cameras can zoom waaaay out.

Outside looks very modern. And those lights!   :lynchmob: :lynchmob: :lynchmob:

vroom vroom

The outside's kinda got a future'y looking bump on the outside. Almost looks like it should be on Reboot. (And as of Sept. 6th, WARNING: INCOMING GAME.)

Looks like some kinda transformer badguy in this pic or something. Tulane U., more like Transformer U., amirite

Stadium will connect to their student-athlete center or whatever.

I know I already gave you one Tulane DID YOU KNOW, but guess what, you get a bonus. Did you know! You don't actually have to be a student-athlete to walk around in that student-athlete thing. As long as you just barge in and act like you own the place you get free access to whatever room you want. Snoop around like crazy. Just go nuts. And you can take all the pictures you want because everyone thinks you own the place.

marble wave

All in all, I'm excited. They've been through a lot and deserve something nice and shiny. Don't quote me on this because I mean I'm not a football player or anything but I expect it to be way better than playing games in the outfield of their baseball stadium.

Oh I will, irl friend. Just you wait.

CF3, I think it is. At the very least I think it's going to be checkerboard in one way or another for sure. Field's not down yet, but every rendo I've seen has it like that. It's a throwback to what the end zones were when they played there a long time ago, I think.

Man. I just read through everything again. Did you guys take note of how good I message boarded yesterday? Wow, just wow. Inspiring stuff. I mean Wooldridge at The 'Plex was a really lol addition.

Dlew, those stands are WEIRD! So weird, dude! So weird for you! Obviously I would prefer they all connect because you know I'm a big fan of stadium symmetry whenever possible. But I think it's still probably okay. Certainly weird in that it kinda reminds me of North Texas' old shitpile Fouts Field, which is somewhat similar in the respect of "3/4ths of the field stands are connected but not the 3/4ths you're used to."

(I know Fouts Field isn't completely connected but you can see how I would make the connection between the two.)

But back to Tulane's shiny new thing. I think it's pretty good. At least they didn't try to mix stands based on straight lines (like BSFS) with stands based on curves (like Sanford Stadium). I'm happy for Tulane. Oh and when I was walking around acting like I owned the goddamn place I saw some memo or something about how they're going to allow tailgating all over this quad nearby. And they're gonna even offer pre-packaged tailgates where they give you all the food you want and they set up grills for you and they bring you coolers full of whatever type of booze you order. P. sweet deal.

Couple things about Yulman that actually suck balls, though. We'll talk about them below, but first look at this image for reference.

Okay. Let's take a closer look.

1. It's 2014, Tulane. Find a way to not stack a press box actually on top of stands. It needs to be recessed back BEHIND the last row of the stands. I mean, gmafb. Is this Memorial Stadium and K-State is playing Wichita University in 1965? Is this Michigan Stadium up until like 2004? (Example below.)

Get the frick out of town with that BS, Tulane. Can you imagine how pissed you'd be if you spent almost $65 of your hard-earned money on Tulane season tickets in their new stadium and then ended up right next to the press box? Hope you like seeing only half the field, dork! Anyway, get your act together Tulane. (Although I honestly suspect it was the bitch-ass neighbors on Audubon Blvd. who made them lower that side of the stands, etc. But it could also just be because there's such limited space.

2. Stadiums whose end zone stands are higher than their sideline stands look weird. :don'tcare:

3. Imagine that you're sitting in the Yulman Stadium press box. Now look over to the stands in the end zone off to your right. Half of those end zone stands are higher than the other half. Like, if it were BSFS, you would look at sections 12, 13, and HALF of 14 and it would be a certain number of rows, but then the other half of 14, and all of 15 and 16 would be like 5 rows less. Don't know why. Is weird.

But like I said, I'm just happy for them that they have something nice again. It's quirky and weird and not how I would've designed it, but whatever. It's like if you have a son who constantly brings home F's and then he tries really really hard and brings home a C-, you're kinda happy for him even though you know he still pretty much sucks.

SB can we also dig a little deeper into this neighbor issue? I mean, my dream basically forever since I was born was to have a house next to a stadium, like in Wrigleyville. Who wouldn't want that? And we're talking what, 7 home games a year? Probably only 3 of them will be night games? Some people ya know?
