When they installed my uverse it took prolly 2 hours. The guy had to move some cable on the outside of my house then go to a major intersection near my house and check the signal or something then came back to my house and ba da bing it worked! He seemed like a super stud installer though.

i get the bare minimum for tv and just get fast internet because it's 2013 and i can watch anything i want on the internet.

I'd do that, too, but my wife would never allow it. We're even still paying for a landline when the only people who call are telemarketers and her parents, for eff's sake.
was in the same boat with my better half, port the number to google voice for 25 bucks (less if you have an old att phone so you don't have buy a go phone) and save the $40/mo or whatever the landline is http://www.zdnet.com/blog/government/google-voice-a-step-by-step-primer-on-ditching-your-land-line-while-keeping-your-number/10455

recording 4 shows at once is so stupid. they go on demand the next day.

AMC only goes on demand for Dish.

Edit:  Unless you are talking illegally then yea next day.

Time warner has AMC shows on demand very quickly.

AMC (and most other non-network channels) also replays their shows till like 4am.  I've never needed more than 2 recordings, but I don't have a wife that watches stupid crap like survivor or America's got talent.

Installation only took an hour and a half.

Picture looks fine so far. Guy said it gets pixel-y when your DVR starts filling up.

I called Cox to cancel when I switched to uverse, and they immediately offered me 30% off my bill for a year, but I mushed them anyway. I'd be interested to see what deal they throw at you...

Can you call cable/internet company A and say you're thinking about switching from Company B (but you really aren't a customer) and get a deal or do they make you send them receipts or whatever?

you really can. or don't even say your switching just say you are cancelling to save money and they will do [almost] anything to keep you around.

Will they blow you?  Because that's almost anything.  I don't think they'll be blowing anybody anytime soon, so maybe lay off the hyperbole.

What if I call Time Warner and just ask if they will lower my bill. Will that work?

If you want a great deal, you have to tell them you are switching. As soon as you say the words "turn off date" they will cut your bill by 30-40% and maybe even throw some free HBO into the mix.

holy crap this has got to be the 18th different thread about cable/internet.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.
