Can someone run down the pros besides the wireless cable box?  what makes it so damn great?

It is the most expensive option outside of TW, and I can't see why.  Direct gives more channels and the internet service that Direct bundles IS the same AT&T you get from Uverse.

I got quotes of $74/MO from Direct
$124 for Uverse
$154 for TW

I was quoted at $100 for my Uverse bundle. Add $7 for any additional boxes.  Not sure, but i'd assume internet speeds are better with Uverse :dunno:

U-Verse has always bragged about being able to record 4 shows at once.  Direct TV can only record 2 shows at once.  During the fall and spring, there are two nights out of the week that I am recording at least 3 shows at once.

Direct TV is widely regarded as having the best HD picture quality. uVerse has the worst. The reason you can record 4 shows at once is that they compress each stream down to about 5MB/s, which is terrible for picture quality, no matter what compression algorithm they use. You will notice it especially during sporting events. The football field will look like it's made out of little green blocks.

My only concerns with dish over cable are (1) the length of contract, and (2) you own the dish equipment, so you're also pretty much stuck with buying new equipment if they break. With cable, you lease the cable box, and there's no charge for service calls or to swap out a box. This happens more than you might think.

what internet speed do you get with uverse? Time warner in kc area has been increasing bandwidth quite a bit because of google fiber. I get roughly ~ 60Mb/s down now with time warner. Its expensive though.

Actually, you may want to upgrade from the cheapest bundle on the internet speed.  When I went back to Att for internet a little over a year ago the sales person told me to get at least the 6 MB/s as the 3 MB/s service is still the old style DSL over the phone line.

I've had DTV for years, and I record up to 5 shows at once with the Genie.  Whoop!!

I use my cable provider for Inet because they had up to 30Mbps for $26 a month, and the best AT&T could do was a 6Mbps DSL.

However, AT&T is deploying Uverse in the area, and if DTV doesn't get their billing straight (I have to call every month to get them to give me, and properly credit me all the freebies they promised in order to keep my business) I may try Uverse.

I'd do that, too, but my wife would never allow it. We're even still paying for a landline when the only people who call are telemarketers and her parents, for eff's sake.

From a tech standpoint, totally. In all other regards, she's terrific.

I put a jihad on U-verse.  When it works, it's fine,  but woe to the man who experiences hardware issues.  Their tech support is horrendous, but the main problem is their distribution network.  Unlike the cable company, you can't go in and swap out faulty equipment.  They have to ship it to you, and there is only one shipping speed - no expedition.  Someone forgot to push a button and the order for my new equipment never went through.  Long story short, I was without internet/tv for a week.  The tv wasn't an issue, but for someone who worked primarily at home at that time, that amount of downtime was a deal breaker.  I switched to TWC so that I wouldn't run into that type of issue in the future.  For me, the decision is more about the avoidance of pain.
My winning smile and can-do attitude.

I can concur. When I had uVerse installed in the past, it took the tech all friggin day. I have no idea why.

All installers are subcontracted.  It's not actually AT&T.  When my was installed, they muddied my carpet.   :shakesfist:  Got free carpet cleaning out of the deal though.   :excited:
