Bill Self is a great coach. But, it has to get really, really old for him to coach against the worst collection of D1 coaches around.

I think Bill could win anywhere. Not much more to accomplish at KU. Combine that with his family issues, and you got a guy who is looking for something different. I am guessing that's why he chose to put out that out there.

He's great, I hope he takes over a high profile NBA team so we can see him on TV as much as possible. OKC would be a good job, but I bet he is the next coach of the Spurs.

Pete, I say we do what we can to keep Self in the conf. I think he needs additional challenges and money to stay, though. I think we should allow him to coach two teams at a time to provide this. I would recommend KU and one of the shitty Texas schools like TCU or Tech. Full responsibility for coaching, scheduling, recruiting, filly slaying, etc. Thoughts?

Bill knows that most college guys that jump to the pros don't get very good jobs - Brad Stevens in Boston is typical of the rebuilding jobs they usually get. HOWEVER, if Scott Brooks doesn't get to at least the Western conference finals the people in OKC next season there could be a dream situation for Bill; Get to "go home" and coach one of the 5 best players in the league.

Hawk fans should join me in rooting hard for a breakout season from Jeremy Lamb, Big 12 basketball is boring enough as it is

I didn't particularly enjoy the comments, and I'm surprised Bill would make them. Usually a question like that gets a canned response.... "I'm only focused on the job I've got," "I have no plans to coach in the NBA at this time," etc. On the other hand, if he really wanted to get into the NBA, I don't see why he would use the media to broadcast smoke signals. He's got plenty of back-channels to go through, were he to choose that route. Still, you would imagine that Bill would be aware of the anxiety his comments would cause for a lot of the KU faithful, so I wonder what the purpose is? It's not like he's getting ready to renegotiate his contract. This, and other remarks in the recent past, make one go, "Hmmmmmmmm."
