Yeah, I mean Ron Prince and company were just murdering it on the recruiting trail in lame duck status.

The player development vs. recruiting is a bullshit argument. Bill has had way too many unheralded freshmen come in and contribute right way. It is time to start recognize that Bill brings better recruits then most people recognize. Just look at the likes of Ty Zimmerman, Tyler Locket, Tre Walker, BJ Finney and Travis Britz.
The thing is that he DOES find diamonds in the rough, and people just think he's solely developing.  He does do very impressive things with development, but he's also not bad at finding guys who will work and have some level of talent.
Beems says you can make players big, fast, and strong just by developing them. They don't need to be athletic in the first place at all.

I have never once said that.  KU has had better recruiting classes on paper, though.  Developing talent is a huge part of coaching, and Snyder is great at it.

Avg star ranking per player

2009
KSU: 2.48
KU: 3.08

2010
KSU: 2.94
KU: 2.89

2011
KSU: 2.68
KU: 2.93

2012
KSU: 2.76
KU: 2.74

2013
KSU: 2.72
KU: 2.96

Do you know how little of a difference those numbers are? Particularly for what is essentially middle of the road players "on paper". But once on the field, our players have been bigger, faster, stronger. That ain't all because of X's and O's, bro. Or even weight room. Our players are better.

What KSU has is a program.  KU simply doesn't.  That's the difference.  It's not about the * rankings "on paper."  If anybody should know this by now, it's KU fans.

When a player comes to KSU, he improves, progressing to become a better player than when he first arrived.  This is what happens in quality programs.  This is why Turner Gill and Ron Prince were abysmal.  This is why Weiss was terrible at ND and, could poteentially be terrible at KU too.  Gotta establish a program that makes kids good football players.  And then you've got to find the right kids for the program.  In this area of coaching, Snyder is BITB.

Yes he is and Weis sucks at it, which is why you'll continue to lose on the field no matter how many paper stars either team has.

Why doesn't Ben understand that rankings on paper does mean you have more talent? I am sick of the KU talking point "well we're just as talented as KSU". It's so dumb.

Because it's fun for fans. And look, I won't tell you stars don't matter. They do....when you're talking about substantial differences in classes. A class full of 4 and 5* kids are more talented than a class full of 2* and 3*. However, when the average star difference is like .2 or something and the on field results are wildly different, then I don't want to hear "KU is better on paper".

Even if you could trust a recruiting analyst, there's no way there's enough review done to consider that minor difference in rating to be accurate.

The reason K-State's football team is better than KU's football team is the same reason Brady Morningstar was a better b-ball'r than Will Spradling.

It isn't fair to group Turner Gill and Ron Prince together. It is not fair to call Turner Gill a bad coach. He coached 2 years. He never got a chance. It was huge mistake firing him so soon, it really hurt ku's program.

I agree...KU and ksu are even on talent, only difference is coaching and ksu has one of the best and he gets every ounce of talent from his players and then some.

False, KSU Coaches are also better evaluators of talent thus bring in better players. This is why KSU sends more players to the NFL then KU.

He was right. You're not on the same talent level. Not even that close. "Try hard" and x's and o's don't get players in the League, talent does. We've had way more than KU and that's something like 80% because our coaches can weed out the "good" 3 star players with like 20% coming from "development".

KSU and KU are not even on talent. It isn't even close.  The 2011 KU team was one of the worst teams in the history of Big 12/Big 8 football.  That's not 100% because of coaching.
