Like anybody who is strongly against naming a street MLKJr has absolutely no idea who Paseo was named after and is just a weirdo. I mean all the street signs were already changed. I have no idea why you would physically take yourself to the polls to reverse what already happened

I don't think it's weird for the residents to care or for people who wanted to keep it MLK to care. I mean it isn't unrealistic to want to have a more broad discussion instead of just picking a street in a black neighborhood which is what it looks like happened. Plus paseo is the coolest street name in Kansas City

In the end, either way has no effect on my life, so I wouldn't say I strongly care about this, but I like keeping the Paseo. There are plenty of other options. The whole process was a bit forced, which is why you see the pushback now.

The minister group or whatever that pushed the Paseo already has enough petition signatures for it to be be on the next ballot again to change back to mlk lol.

It's a really bad look when you get the full context too! Should have renamed 39th MLK instead and also not been so sloppy

I was hoping for 63rd to really get BKS cringing

having strong feelings on this issue is pretty lol
this take is a really bad look

Keep in mind I don't have strong feelings about this but I don't think I need to diminish the opinions of paseo residents and civil rights activists on either side here.

I would maybe lol at a white person who doesn't live on or near the Paseo and is strongly opposed to renaming it MLK but that feels too racist to laugh at.

i didn't see your edit until now. you're probably right

I didn't follow the process but didn't they have an assload of civic leaders on the panel to make a recommendation and the council took their recommendation and implemented it?

That's why I voted no.

Why not just turn a numbered street into MLK  Blvd or whatever? That's what Austin did. Much cleaner way to go.

That would work especially well in KC as it would bridge the "east side" west.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.
