St. Louis is still reaping the rewards of not annexing new land.

Minneapolis $179MM for police for 2018. Atlanta $218MM for police in 2017. KCMO $254MM for police for 18-19. Whaaaa?

How much more should they get clams?

those are both smaller cities than KCMO, both in population and (maybe more importantly?) sq mileage

kcmo 481k / 315 sq miles
atlanta 472k / 133 sq miles
minneapolis 413k / 54 sq miles

how

i have absolutely zero #agenda here, i was just commenting on phil's comparison cities. i would think population and amount of physical area that a PD has to patrol are factors in its budget, but who knows? i just like geography stats, man.

https://twitter.com/staubio/status/1149145088489996288?s=19

I will also say our way too big city in the nether regions doesn't need much police patrol action but yes it does impact budget and response times when those KCMO/Liberty calls need service.

Yes.
lol. They don’t have crap going on for them visitor wise, especially if you’re a advocate for selling downtown.

I have very little knowledge about how KCMO police operate, but aren't there precincts or divisions or something?  It's not like patrols out in Martin City are getting called up to take care of stuff by the airport, right?

the fact that the airport and martin city are both part of the same 315 sq mi city *might* mean that KCPD has to have more precincts/divisions/officers than, say, the 54 sq mi Minneapolis PD.
maybe it doesn't mean that! but i think probably it does!

Right, but I guess I don't know what difference it makes.  It should still be proportional.  It's just a broader tax base supporting a broader geographic territory.

I'm not sure what chunking it out into separate cities accomplishes.

maybe if all 10 KCMO cops spent their time in the city's high crime areas instead of minsky's or giving tickets on ward parkway, we'd be better off

yeah that's my point! the original question (from Phil in february or whatever) was asking why is KCPD's budget so much higher than minn/atl.

Sly got more money for the PD ya goof. My original comment was more focused on the effectiveness of.our PD isn't primarily a money problem. It's management.

Maybe this goes to SD farm thread but why were tons of pig guts (without pig outsides) going through downtown KC on a trailer to get spilled? Where did they come from (besides pigs)? Where were they going and for what purpose?

They can make some sort of medicine out of pig intestines so that would be my guess. After they get the mediciny part out they grind them up into a protein meal and use it in making dog food.
