That's the funniest part is that street has absolutely no need to connect with Westport Rd. I swear Phil hasn't even looked at a map to see what he's arguing about

the city would be lucky to rid itself of that street,  along with the slums that line it it's yet another engineering clusterfuck as it intersects with roanoke
I wouldn't hold your breath now. A well designed QT may have added value to entice them to sell...this design will only degrade that property more.

I know it well. Unusually park on it vs the QT lot. I also had friends lived there a decade ago.

This isn't about #savemercier

So you want qt to adapt their design to the area but you have no flexibility in looking at the specifics of the area and what will or will not be a disruption. Got it

I'm still trying to unpack your "superblocks have ruined Westport rd" argument

Not following. I think there should be flexibility by all parties involved. QT added trees...that's not being flexible.

You have no flexibility in closing that street, even though it makes the most sense in this particular project. If this was on the north side of Westport rd I would agree closing the street would not be a good idea.

QT also lowered sign heights and did some alternate lighting or something and other crap to fit in better with the neighborhood, you know this.

I actually agree with you and I posted that earlier that this final design was a double down on dumb. This fake open road but giving away the asset is the worst of both worlds. That was the neighborhood who thought they wanted that but my opinion is it's going to turn out worse than the original plan.

My inflexibility in street closures is a way bigger concern and comes way earlier in this process when city staff is assisting in design. QT knew they could buy the liquor store lot cheaper than the corner lot and pressure the city into this.  That's exactly what happened.

They made superficial changes. You know this.

KC talk is only for infrastructure and utility building design...airports, hotels, gas stations....

Street vacations....too soon?

If you look at an overhead of the area you can see the corner lot you have a hard-on for is not very large, oddly shaped and doesn't really help any with what qt is trying to do and would be pretty much useless in an expansion. The berbiglia lot makes tons more sense since it's larger and let's them redo the pump design (which is horrible currently) because of available space

I looked at a map and am having trouble seeing what could possibly make this a controversial issue.

I made it work in my advanced MSPaint'n ...and redid pump design to make more sense.

Heck yeah the berbiglia lot is easier.  I'm just not in a hurry to make it as easy as possible for QT over established design standards and neighborhoods.

It's pretty low on the controversy level...basically status quo for that street (Westport Rd)

That's great for QT and it's shareholders.

and for its customers, obviously.

Seems like regularly non functioning bathrooms would be a legit concern but what do I know? :dunno:

I'm not a frequent business traveler, but I do prefer functional plumbing and electricity in my airports.  Though KCI doesn't always have these things, it does have curbside drop-off and short security lines - occasionally.
