going to be a gigantic cluster when multiple street cars are going to have to stop because of, or better yet hit parked cars, every single day.

Seems streetcar drivers shouldn't be being so generous on estimating what they can squeeze by if that car was truly stationary the whole time.... Seems weird it would hit the middle not the very front of the train.

i was surprised too, guess that's what the months of testing are for.  how the driver hit a car so obviously out of its lane is very odd though

Sounds like it's not quite permanent yet, just a "pop up". Maybe they'll find a better spot in the meantime

FYI for those in midtown, a streetcar extension vote is being organized.  Get your neighbors together and spread the good word.  The vote will (most likely) be for a TDD along each side of Main Street up to 1/2 mile on either side of Main ending at UMKC.  For comparison, the TDD for the downtown line added around $250 to my property tax bill per year....I'd think they are aiming for a similar cost for residential homeowners in midtown.

Good information here:
http://nextrailkc.com/main-street/

maybe they'll be smart and go change their proposal to go down gillham instead, that area could stand for some of the free development/money that the streetcar offers

It's not a super great location, but there are plenty of small venue music places (Tank Room, Green Lady) that are nearby. Adds to that area. But I wish it would still be near Westport

So, what's the protocol on future shitty parked cars?  Shut it all down until Mr Mercedes moves his car, or wait until a tow truck arrives?  Seems like even the best case will delay these things a bunch.

They had said that there was a white line showing where to keep clear of, but I don't see one in that photo.

I saw it in one earlier.  Still, ppl park over lines/too close to lines all the time.  What then?

the spaces that they have "built" are too narrow.

Tow quickly. The operators have been kind during testing to try and find the driver... But during revenue service towing will be much quicker.

Its dealt with very easily in other streetcar cities, this isn't a big deal.

I looked it up.   From the other side there IS a white line.    But it doesn't continue in the above shot.   You can see the dashed chalked line route in the above photo.   For some reason they didn't continue the line yet.    Mercedes driver is a dumbass for parking so stupid, streetcar driver is a dumbass for not stopping, and the City/contractor is at fault for not having proper markings in place.

Spots were shoehorned in some stretches to appease as many parties as possible. Many business owners along main didn't want to lose their street parking so the streetcar operators did all they could to not lose spaces... Just like if your car is too long for a space (Compact only, street spot not long enough for an f250 but long enough for a smart car) not every car will fit in every parking spot. There are more than enough parking spots downtown.

As an aside this parking spot width drama kctv5 is trying to drum up was not a problem in the Mercedes incident yesterday... Just a bad parker.

The Mercedes was parked so badly it violated the street parking ordinance which says your car has to be parked within x distance of the curb... White line or not.
