annual MAX pub crawl

been to blind tiger yet?

Harling's has been our traditional 39th street stop...

I just remembered this year we are doing streetcar instead. I tried to do troost max last year but there was quite a gap in midtown that didn't have day bars.

Harling's is not open as much anymore due to blind tiger

I had one of the weirdest convos in my life with a stranger there. Like, he told me for years his job was to live with this old lady and take care of her and that she had died recently and he was about to get kicked out of the place and have nowhere to live, because he's an alcoholic and will never change, wouldn't be able to find a job, etc. My friends and I told him to get motivated and go find a job, stop drinking, etc. Now I see the guy roaming the streets all over downtown in the same clothes he wore that day.  :frown:

Yeah Harling's is always a crapshoot... Are are usually calling at the bar prior just confirming they are open. Blind tiger would Def been the stop this year as every year we try and do new bars.

Doubleshift will be on the list this year  :Woohoo:

sometimes perception is reality.  streetcars are perceived as nicer, cleaner, more convenient than busses.  this street car will be free - v. paying for a bus.

it is what it is.  Kind of like uber v. cab.  it's the same idea - you're getting from point A to point B.  but to a lot of people, there's a huge difference.
that's true what you're saying but if visitors want to get around, they have options and cleaning up our bus system into something that people would want to ride and not be scared to ride and thats easy to ride seems like a much more prudent option to me.  but we weren't given that option

You weren't given an option, because you don't live in the downtown TDD.  This is not a hard concept.  The City didn't force this streetcar on anybody.  When you were given the choice, you voted it down and, hence, are not paying for it.

Regarding the funding for busses, the Missouri Legislature in 2015 renewed a half-cent sales tax providing ~$35 million in annual funding to the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, for use in improving and maintaining the bus system.

These systems aren't mutually exclusive.  They complement one another.

Have we found out why some don't consider streetcars rail?

I'll come back to find out later, going take the lightrail downtown to meet some friends.  Might bus it home... or use our streetcar to hit another LR line that goes towards my house.   :D

rail means a dedicated rail. but i think the way you were using it (with regards to government funds iirc) you were meaning "non-bus public transit"

it's really weird that they're waiting until after the b12 to turn the thing on

All the cars aren't here yet and they each need to all be tested before the FTA will sign off on passenger service.

Baseless obstructionist lawsuits also hinder service starting.

It is dedicated rail... Its not sharing with rails with any other service. If you are saying dedicated right of way? Then Minneapolis and Houston should call themselves streetcars.
