actually my first thought was that it reminded me of the W in Austin

my first thought was W dallas

do you think austin put up a fight with it looking too dallas-y?

everything in downtown austin is brand new and shiny and really tall

The W in Austin looks much nicer than the one in Dallas (huge, falling panes of glass notwithstanding).  Plus, that black box attached to it is the ACL Live Moody Theatre, which is my absolute favorite venue.

Speaking of Jenga!  This thing is going up (in ATX):

the load balance looks fine on that building, architecture wise that is very well done

hi Panj, what are you talking about?

Sorry, the Lenexa stuff.

It always seemed weird that they were building all of that in what seemed like the middle of nowhere.

I played in the annual Catholic Charities golf tournament yesterday in Lenexa. It was pretty elite. 2nd year doing it. It was the who's who of major player Catholics in KC. Soren did a live remote from the tournament too. That course embarrasses my game and it's really sad in front of Ms. Wacky's fam.  :frown:

The American Royal moving to the TRUMAN rough ridin' SPORTS COMPLEX is the most insane and Kansas City things to ever happen in Kansas City.

While this is my usual opinion, but in this situation, I think this is a great move.  The BBQ contest needs nothing but a ton of surface parking....we have that in spades out there.  I'm all for Kaufman being downtown (not so much arrowhead, lot of dead empty days) but that's a different problem.  Since we have that space out there, it's a much better spot to house the contest than the west bottoms.  Since that was the absolute last reason to keep those parking lots in an urban setting, maybe they can be repurposed for a better use?

Agree on keeping Arrowhead out east while baseball be Downtown. If only Sporting Park could have been by the river or P&L.

looks pretty dallas-y

Maybe they'll do an elite park over I-670 like Dallas too.  :excited:

I just put them in a different (smaller) category all together.

Cities like that (and Des Moines & Wichita too) have some good things to offer, but they just aren't KC, Minneapolis, St Louis, etc.

My favorite thing about cf3 is his willingness to punch people square in the face.

Our downtown would be much more thriving, if I-35 hadn't destroyed half of quality hill, and I-70 didn't cut across the middle. They should've gone farther away from the heart of the city

well CF3, they are building a giant dallas sized Hyatt on the south side of 670 to access the kauffman center on the south side of 670 and the convention center which straddles 670 so i don't think it's a problem bud  :dunno:

also (and this is more important) you can't have a downtown without highway access, in any city, ever

670 is god awful and completely unnecessary. you could also do without the 71 to 35 connection on the east side of downtown. There is no need to route the freeways like they did.

SF only has one downtown freeway and it's like a mile from the financial district, and it's impossible to access via freeway from the north (Marin) where tons of commuters live. (transit, yes, but crap loads of those bankers still drive).

I can't imagine driving from marin co to the financial district every day. That's like 40 minutes if the roads are totally empty
