Conferences continue to jockey for position with different bowls after the change to a playoff system. The Big 12, for example, lost it's biggest non-BCS attachment when the Cotton Bowl was named to the College Football Playoff's semifinal rotation. Another bowl in the heart of Texas will likely take its place.

"Expect the Valero Alamo Bowl to inherit the AT&T Cotton Bowl's role as an elite matchup," Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News reported. "Look for a trade of bowl resort cities, with Orlando replacing San Diego. And Memphis' Beale Street could become a yearly destination for a Big 12 team."

The Big 12 is also expected to lose the Holiday Bowl to the Big Ten Conference.

"A relationship dating back to the 1998 with the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl will end with the 2013 game," sources told Carlton.

The Liberty Bowl could also be a major target for the Big 12. The Liberty bowl would upgrade from its current agreement with Conference USA. The Big 12 is interested, and bowl game officials are even more interested.

"The answer is an emphatic yes." Liberty Bowl executive director Steve Ehrhart told Carlton.

The Big 12's new bowl lineup outside of the College Football playoff should include the Alamo, Buffalo Wild Wings, Russell Athletic, Liberty, Meineke Car Care and Heart of Dallas bowls.

Wow.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

That doesn't look very good. I kind of expect the Russell Athletic Bowl to become our #3.  They jumped out of nowhere to get the inside track to get the ACC #2, so they are probably going to have a good increase in payout. I doubt they would work to get the ACC #2 and turn around and match them with our #4.

Love how Bowlsby just strolled in and pistol whipped Conference USA for their bowl game. He's a stud middle manager who gets berated by the VP and takes it out on his most pud employee like a complete boss.

Poor rough ridin' choices. Next thing the will do is add a bowl game in KC. Can't wait for the KC Masterpiece bowl, or god forbid the Legends Bowl and they play in the Sporting KC stadium.

Not having San Diego is devastating. Yeah we'd rather go to Memphis than San Diego just because Iowa State had a good time there and could drive there easy? Jesus Christ. Bye San Diego.

it's not like it was our choice though. I mean, the b10 decided they wanted to play in it. it's not like the pud b12 can compete with that.

Recruiting hotbeds!

Re: Big 12's new bowl lineup

On paper it sounds bad.....but what I think it really happening is more of a focus on keeping the  Big 12 teams in Recruiting "hot beds"

Also, the further we intertwine with SEC.....the more the "new" bowls make sense.

I loved going to the Holiday Bowl....but besides a fun trip....it made little sense for a Big 12 team.

We kind of crap on the Holiday Bowl in recent years. It always should have been up there with the Cotton Bowl (like ksu made it when we mushed the Cotton for the Holiday in 99). I think it was sub-Alamo at the end? We deserve the rough ridin' Memphis Bowl.

yep, when the big12 let the bowls choose who went where instead of the slotting system the payout for the Alamo and the Insight ( :sdeek:) jumped it.

I guess I'm not as worried about this as everyone else. With there now being 6 top level bowls, the #2 Big12 will have to be outside the top 11 not to still have a 2nd team in the Fiesta, Cotton, or, Chick-Fil-A.  Our best team not in a playoff bowl (most years our #3) will go to the Alamo to play the PAC-12s best team not in a playoff bowl.  After that our next best team will probably go to Orlando to play the ACC's best team not in a playoff bowl (Big12s 3/4 vs ACC 2/3).  After that I have no problem with regional bowls our fans can easily get to.

It's obvious the national media is trying to give the Big 10 our exposure. Is WVU killing us? :bang:
