Why so initially dismissive and patronizing?  Was your inner partisanship and hatred towards the tea party shining through?  You can tell us you're a bigot, we'll help you through it.

Because the president has basically no control over the IRS. (And they shouldn't).

Are you making some kind of joke?

Nope, he believes it.

Again, this would not be the first time this administration has used the IRS to smear its enemies.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

If you Google "IRS commissioner" the entire first page is all stories about how Obama ousted him.  Interesting. . .

so profiling blacks by the police, and arabs by the tsa is cool and should be used, but profiling anti-tax organizations by the IRS is wrong?

I know what you're trying to do, and frankly, its insulting to both yours and my intelligence.

Back to this, "the president has no control over the irs" thing. . . I'm really curious for the punchline

And what a surprise, the IRS leaned on pro-life groups, too. The corruption is appalling. It's time to abolish these fuckers and switch to the fair tax (oops, hope I don't get audited now).

Quote
“In one case, the IRS withheld approval of an application for tax exempt status for Coalition for Life of Iowa. In a phone call to Coalition for Life of Iowa leaders on June 6, 2009, the IRS agent ‘Ms. Richards’ told the group to send a letter to the IRS with the entire board’s signatures stating that, under perjury of the law, they do not picket/protest or organize groups to picket or protest outside of Planned Parenthood,” the Thomas More Society announced today. “Once the IRS received this letter, their application would be approved.”

Planned Parenthood endorsed Obama in 2008 and 2012.

The IRS also pressured another pro-life group about its religious activities. “The IRS withheld approval of an application for charitable tax-exempt recognition of Christian Voices for Life, questioning the group’s involvement with ’40 Days for Life’ and ‘Life Chain’ events,” according to the law firm. “The Fort Bend County, Texas, organization was subjected to repeated and lengthy unconstitutional requests for information about the viewpoint and content of its educational communications, volunteer prayer vigils, and other protected activities.”

The IRS softball team canceled its previously scheduled game against Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn’s (R., Texas) office on Friday, as tensions between the IRS and conservatives mount in the face of widening scandal.

“Team Cornyn softball team was scheduled to play the IRS team on Friday, ‘the Cheetahs,’” Cornyn wrote on his Facebook page. “Game has been cancelled by IRS, without rescheduling.”

A spokesperson for Cornyn confirmed the last-minute cancellation but was unsure of the reason.

“We contacted them to confirm our game which was scheduled for tomorrow night, and they said they needed to reschedule,” Drew Brandewie said. “Guess they needed an extension.”

Well, the pres. appointed a new acting IRS commissioner today.  Curious as to whether this constitutes" anything to do with the IRS"?

I'm really disappointed in the equal rights people. Not a modicom of outrage from them here.  True colors really shining through, I guess.

My favorite thing about this is how it completely vindicates the tea party.  I mean of all the things that could attack the tea party, the democrats thought the rough ridin' IRS was strategically the safest vehicle. LOL

Were there fuckups with the IRS involving this whole thing? Absolutely and groups should not be targeted solely based on their political views or affiliations. That is a pretty asinine thing to do.

Having said that, I will say there is a chance that this whole things was more of a disparate impact than disparate treatment. It shouldn't really come as a surprise that groups who are in large part anti-tax got targeted by the taxing authority. One would logically assume those anti-tax groups are more likely to either not pay their taxes or figure out a way to not have to pay as much in taxes. On NPR recently there was a former IRS worker who said that just in her dealings the word "patriot" was commonly found in the names of tax evading groups. That is just one IRS worker's experience, not necessarily accurate on a larger scale.  Let's not forget that 501(c)(4) groups are suppose to be predominantly for social welfare and not to be predominantly for politics. When the title of an organization has something to do with "tea party" or "american patriots" that pretty much screams political. Just like a group with the name "communist" or "socialist" would scream of being political.

That's actually a really lame joke that shows up in about half of all law school exams. Not very original. Cheetahs is good though.

The Lying Game continues....

Quote
Although White House Chief Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler claims to have learned about the IRS audit scandal only last month, she had three unprecedented one-on-one meetings last year with the Treasury Department’s chief lawyer, who has known about the inspector general’s investigation of the Internal Revenue Service’s targeting of conservative nonprofits since at least June 2012.

Christopher J. Meade, Treasury Chief Counsel, met with Ruemmler on September 27th, December 11th, and December 13th, 2012, according to White House Visitor Records requests. The two had never met one-on-one prior to these meetings.

Meade was one of the first members of President Barack Obama’s administration to find out about the IRS investigation in June 2012, when he became the Treasury Department’s acting general counsel.
