i wasn't sure if this should go in the cyclist thread or the VQ thread, but i decided it goes here. my best friend and i did a 3-day bikepack on Vancouver Island, and when you take a ferry into another country with only your bikes and the stuff packed on them, it feels very VQ-y. however this is not the most remote part of the world, and we passed a town at least once every day, which was nice because this was our first bikepack and we don't know what we're doing. ended up being 170 miles, 8000+ft gain, from Victoria to Cowichan Lake and back. gorgeous part of the world if you like forests. at one point there were two mountain lions (cougars in canuck speech) sitting in the middle of the trail about 200 yards in front of us, just staring at us. pretty scary and eventually they just wandered off, so we decided to camp elsewhere that night!
the night before, we car camped in Olympic NP near Port Angeles, WA. woke up to a beautiful sunrise with Mt Baker off in the distance

on the first day, we made it 60 miles all the way to the town by the lake (farther than we planned, due to the cougars), and we sort of stumbled into a patch of trees in the dark to set up the hammocks.
in the morning we found out we were actually like, right next to the lake ?!
managed to eat at legendary tim H's twice. amaze
