Yeah, it's kind of a funny aspect of that book. There aren't any real details of any kind about what he was doing. Like you said, if there were, it would all be over.

Probably a better blurb from that to know what he was doing (working parts)

I left a job in August 2023 and transferred my 401k from that job into my IRA and it was super simple since they were both with Fidelity.

My old job's 401k still shows up as an "account" on my fidelity home page but a couple of months ago it randomly had $54.10 in it. No idea how that got there but when I went to transfer it to my IRA they still charged me a $25 transfer fee which was almost half of this random free money I got.  :shakesfist: :shakesfist: :shakesfist:

I only noticed this because I am finally getting around to moving some old HSA's to fidelity so everything is in one spot.

I don’t get it. Does non-zero mean something very particular in qualitative analytics?

Best answer I've seen is tell them whoever kills everyone else and is last man standing gets to go free. Then shot the last guy.

Much better than what I had in mind (get frothy mouthed, scream and wave the gun at all of them).

I guess I get that, but the prompt is ridiculous. There is no reason the 100 murderers would have to heed your stupid instruction when you only have one bullet. You could lie and say you have more rounds but even then everyone is in an open field and knows they have some chance at survival. Unless you assume magical powers or some other crazy variable then there is a 0% chance you’re keeping everyone there.

I'd continue to ask more questions until they got bored. What size are the murderers? What kind of murder did they commit? How old are they? What kind of clothes are they wearing? Tell me more about this field, mud? grass? valley? What kind of gun do I have? etc etc.

Just tell them the first person to attempt to escape is dead as fried chicken.   They'll all line up to be second but nobody wants to be first.

Only sort of germane to Trump tanking the economy but I’ve posted about Donor Advised Funds before and I’m a big fan.

What’s a donor advised fund? For all I care it’s basically just an easy way to donate stock.

Why would I want to donate stock? Taxes! You get to take advantage of any capital gains for tax deduction purposes without paying any income/capital gains tax.

PLUS—If you use a robo investor like Betterment, you win twice. They can use tax loss harvesting which sells your tanking stock and then immediately buys equivalent stock, which allows you to write off the “losses” on taxes. The only reason so-called “experts” say that tax loss harvesting doesn’t rule is because you’ll ultimately have to pay more taxes on the “gains” when you liquidate, but this is a actually an advantage when you donate the stock.

Anyway, I just recently tried out a new DAV called Daffy, which is integrated with Betterment (and I guess Vanguard) and seems to really rock.

This is not a paid advertisement.

If you have an absolute crap ton of cash on hand and don’t need it for anything other than buying deflated investments, yes.   If not…probably still yes but I would need Dax to explain it.
