move Sams #life to what position?
« on: April 10, 2013, 01:56:43 PM »
assuming that the qb race ends the way most of us expect it to, with waters getting the starting nod over sams, what position do you want coach snyder to move sams to?

i bet the first place most of you will choose is WR.  at 6'2" 210, and with his speed, he would make a formidable wideout.  but is that the appropriate answer?

consider our need for a weak side linebacker next year.  then consider that if he were to add a few pounds (or LBs), how we would look playing for the lynch mob.  having spent very limited time in clean up duty at QB, i don't think we really would have wasted any of his developmental time and we would benefit from having someone stop the run, who used to be the runner.  he would already know the cuts the runner would make, and beat the runner to the spot, and tackle him for a loss.

he is the type of player that will lay it on the line for us every single f'n week. exactly what you need out of your LB/lynch mob.

+ if he still wants to QB from time to time we put him in at QB in mop up duty for waters.

my vote goes weakside linebacker, then strong side linebacker, then safety, then WR.

Sams does not have to build to play linebacker at the d1 FBS level.

Like it or not Tuggle was only good in pursuit and he had a lot more going for him.

I dont think he has the grit or toughness to play linebacker.

Assuming he doesnt win the starting job I would like him to move to safety. Maybe back up Zimmerman for a couple of years and start as a senior?

I hate the people who are like "BUT IT WOULD LEAVE A MAJOR HOLE AT THE BACKUP QB SPOT!!!"

Think of how much time we've spent in non blowout situations the last 4 years with the backup QB taking snaps. Texas 2010, and one quarter against OSU last year. He's too talented to not go SOMEWHERE.

he's our best option at QB but he would also be a stud replacement in the gaping hole left by stud Chris Harper

great thread clams, appreciate your thoughts.  I think sams would make a great LB or safety.  worst case he can definitely be a contributor on special teams as a "gunner."

no doubt he will be a great gunner.  he will be featured prominently as i write up my all burner and all speed merchant teams.  i think you can make the connection as to what i'm saying

I mean it's pretty obvious that out guy Daniel would be our best option at QB, WR and S

he's only one person.  that's why i suggested LB then mop-up duty for waters, so he can do a little bitty bit of other things.

My only question would be whether or not he could master the special teams playbook.

I'd say defensive back.  How do you spell "lockdown"???  Easy: L-I-F-E. (#life)

This juco guy we got from iowa is blowing sams out of the waters so far in spring ball. Doubt sams would see more than mop up duty this season.

I think Coach Weber would be licking his chops for a floor general heir apparent to Will.  I'm licing my chops, too, quite frankly.

This might be the most ignorant statement on the board right now. Do you watch football at all? Spring ball is roughly equivalent to your stated "mop up" duty. It gives kids (walkons, 4th/5th year non playing seniors and Tate Snyder) a chance to go out and give it their all and realize they can't quite hack it but still want the free Nike swag. Then Bill wanders out and reality checks those who can't run with the big dogs and motivates those who need a little push and he wants to see excel further. Snyder has done this with all the KSU "greats" ...E3, Bishop, etc...

So don't sit there and try to tell me that some random kid from nowhere Iowa is going to be taking time from #Life...he's the closest thing to Bishop v2 that we'll ever have.

<rant> over....not trying to attack you, just really passionate about what this kid brings to the table for KSU Football. He's the kind of game-changer that can take us to the promised land.
