So if the guy in the bedroom killed the dude walking in the room, how is the intruder charged with 1st degree murder? He didn't kill anyone

can they charge him for 1st degree murder because his premeditated actions certainly led to the death of a person?

In Illinois in committing or attempting to commit a forcible felony he must have proximately caused a death.  So simple trespass wouldn't cover it, but if he busted in and fired shots as alleged that would certainly qualify as a forcible felony (i.e., home invasion and aggravated discharge/battery).  He need not have intended the death nor have even foreseen the possibility.  Typically called felony murder, but it's first degree all right.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

Wife has a friend who's husband is in same troop.  They were debriefed on it next morning.  Hitting the troop pretty hard as you can imagine.
