There always seems to be a huge outcry about government subsidy ratios.
(Honestly don't know) What would be the price of food in the United States without farm subsidies? Would no farm subsidies be the end of the family farm? What if things like CRP didn't exist, what would the impact on wildlife and the environment?
I've heard a lot of outcry about the amount of money Alaska receives, but several items I've heard to explain that is that the Federal Gov't controls huge amounts of land in Alaska, and that Alaska had the old bait and switch pulled on it. Some argue that Alaska in turn for becoming a state, was promised a much freer reign to exploit it's natural resources, but those efforts have been stymied by the Federal Gov't over the years.
One side of the argument is that states like Kansas and others receive significant federal subsidies for things that enable National Self Reliance, Security, maintenance of a way of life and/or preservation of natural resources.
