I've never understood the people who go to the grocery store and just buy an entire cart full of crap. How does a family eat $250 worth of food before it expires? Do all of these people just have like 6 kids or something?

Every Thursday morning I have this little debate with myself.  Do I put our (wife and I) one bag of trash in front of the house by itself or put it in a trash can?  Like the trash can looks nicers/neater but I figure it pisses off the trash guys to open it an find one measly trash bag.  Anyway, can confirm that my neighbors with kids all have like 6 trash bags every week.

Do you go to the grocery store everyday?  we go once a week.  doesn't cost us $250, though.  we can do a week under $100.

I go once, sometimes twice, per week.

sounds very unefficient.  everybody thought that self checkout lanes would be great, and they are a trainwreck.
I love the self checkout lanes at my local Price Chopper.  I think there are 6 or 8 but usually they work like a charm when i am just snagging a basket of food.  When I go on the full shopping spree about once a month a use a cart and go through the regular people lanes.  Also, always do regular lanes when you have booze in your basket so you dont have to wait on the person at the self check outs to see your ID.

that guy should try working at the aggieville jimmy johns if little stuff like that irritates him

Jimmy Johns doesn't matter because they always slide the receipt with all the "No this" "Add that" on a track above the prep line. So as long as the guy working can read it shouldn't be an issue.

yeah, but when was the last time someone threw up on the floor of a subway, or threw a lamp through a plate glass window at subway, or fell asleep at 2:45 am in the subway bathroom with the door locked?

It's easier than you think.  Kids are money disposals.

I've always just assumed that the whole "pay with your phone" thing would be done at the checkout, which has always made me hope that it never happens, because there is no way that could ever be more efficient than just using a credit card.

essentially it is a credit card.  phones are/will be equipped with NFC technology which is basically the "tap your card" technology already installed in most stores.  instead of swiping your card, you would tap your phone, which would have your credit card numbers stored in it.  no need to take any physical cards with you.  android already has this with google wallet and I'm sure Apple will put it into the next iPhone.  people were surprised it wasn't in the iPhone 5.  before long you'll see government have electronic options too, like mobile drivers licenses and passports.  many insurance companies offer electronic proof of insurance through your phone.  5 years from now physical cards will be a thing of the past.

How is that superior or more efficient than just using the physical card, though? I really doubt physical cards will be a thing of the past 5 years from now, considering we still haven't done away with cash or even checks yet. I guess it's probably just one of those things I would have to see in action, but I'm envisioning grandma in front of me in the checkout line taking out the smart phone after everything has been scanned and spending a few minutes trying to locate the credit card app.

I call bs on this unless you are getting all non food items elsewhere.  Even then, you guys must grow/raise a bunch of your own stuff or something.

"You had (insert random special item, usually seasonal, here) a while back, can I get one of those?"
"I'm sorry no, it was just a Christmas time special"
"Oh, in that case I don't know what I want."

This has to be expected at some places though.  I mean, we live in an age where there is a new craft beer everytime you go out for a drink.  Also, some places have like a hundred taps.  You can't be expected to know all that.  I mean, you aren't getting a hair cut...

I don't care if it's at a time when I can talk. It's when the bar is two deep with people and someone wants to chat up their drink selection that it's annoying.

Also, asking what type of beer/whiskey/gin etc is good is different that "what's good?" Those conversations usually go like this:

"Well, do you like whiskey?"
"No, that's gross"
"Vodka?"
"No"
"Are you a beer drinker?"
"Not really"
:dubious: :points to guy behind him: "What can I get for you?"

My dad is like this!  Whenever he orders food/drink he's quiet about his order.  I have zero idea why.
