Vegas

best example of this

disagree. Vegas is amazing to see. There are plenty of legit reasons to go there beyond "saying you've been there". Same with in-n-out.

I didn't say Vegas didn't have any intrinsic values to it. But tons of people go just to say they went there.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

When travelling, people seem to often do standard sightseeing regardless of their interest or enjoyment.  It's like, "I'm in Paris. You bet your ass I'm gonna get a look at that rough ridin' Mona Lisa." Silly, yet understandable.

Can confirm, when i graduated EMAW U, since i was  :kstategrad: i backpacked around europe for a month before i started my career.  Whilst there, my friend and I got robbed/swindled by some Parisian strippers (funny story, should maybe move to "Embarass yourself" thread)  The next day when we left the hostel, neither of us really gave two shits about staying in the worlds dirtiest city any longer, but we did a couple hours of sightseeing just so losing $100 to strippers wouldn't be our only story when people asked how Paris was.

I'm not sure if this fits in here, but it's been annoying me lately so I'm going to vent. Although I do feel like people go to Mexico just to say they did (and get drunk, wear a sombrero and take a picture with somebody with a mustache).

Why do people take the same vacation repeatedly? Sweet bro, you just went to Playa del Carmen for the 7th time in 8 years. I bet that's not old by now. Try a new vacation to tell eveyone on facebook about.

While this behavior is certainly bizarre, having no other reason for wanting to see the president of the United States in person is probably more bizarre.

That rough ridin' jackass should have stayed out of our beautiful university.

He really brought down the look with the Kansas State logo behind him.

I wanted to throw a rock at his motorcade.

On my drive from MHK to San Diego, I stopped at the Grand Canyon just to say I had seen it. It was 30 minutes out of the way, and absolutely worth the pay off.

Maybe people just say they hurray wanted to see something because they're afraid of our unable to say why they enjoy something. I can come up with good reasons to see everything listed here. I guess I'm just better than most people. :dunno:

I like to see tourist stuff too. Like, places people say are too touristy. I enjoy most of them.

Quite often, you find out that touristy things are that way for a reason.

many collectors i know collect things just to show people what they've collected. like, the actual collecting of the things brings them zero satisfaction or enjoyment. it's all about showing off to others what they've collected.

that's pretty bizarre, too.

by the way, weird thread.
i have similar feelings about hunting deer just to show off the antlers. i hunt often, but i love deer meat and the sport of the hunt. if a deer has nice antlers, great. but i won't pass up a great animal just because the antlers aren't awesome. after you mount one, what happens next? show it off to your friends. hope i'm not pissing off any trophy hunters.

I actually went to Pier 39 today. I love taking the ferry and taking in the view and eating clam chowder in a bread bowl and seeing the sea lions.

Grand Canyon.

this is a dumb one. It's one of the coolest natural settings in the world.

Mt. Rushmore isn't bad, though. But it's still pretty cool.

Rushmore is stupid, drive way across South Dakota to a hill with faces carved in it.  take a pic.  drive home.  nothing cool about it, I've been.
