It's an economics problem now. I could boot them in Feb but then I'd have to replace all the flooring to make it nice for the next dirt person to wreck OR i could lock them into their filth for the next 18 months and pocket that paper.

You're too young for the burbs anyhow.

Lets talk about these Icicles forming on my exhaust vent on the roof. This is the first time I have noticed this much ice but I'm assuming it has happened in the past as I have had the same vent setup for a couple years.

I'm guessing that I will need to put a new hood vent on the furnace exhaust but is this something that can wait until the spring? Will the ice forming on and beneath the exhaust damage my roof?

The current vent is a hoopty version I added about 4 years ago after the old one was removed by roofers, just went to home depot and bought something that looked like it would work. Is there a certain type of exhaust vent I should buy to prevent this from happening again?
I'm not sure if there's any kind of vent hood that could prevent condensation on the outside of the vent. But it's really nothing to worry about.  Your roof is designed to deal with water and ice forming on top.

Things to watch out for would be if the condensation is coming back in the line, that's bad but you can warp some insulation around the line to fix it.  And I guess if the ice piles get so bad that the section of roof might not support them would be bad, but they'd have to be much larger than what you've got.

Considering building a house per se more like a barndominium on the 1/4 we bought this spring.  Thoughts?  Opinions?

Why would you build a people barn for temporary? It would probably cost as much as the real house.

Sounds like you need to buy a $10,000 double wide and drag her on the back 80 while you build the forever trailer.

Just thinkin down the road.  We don't want people in our home so the shouse could facilitate that.  I'm just concerned about the kids feeling like vagabonds.  I want them to be comfortable in this transitional period.

I have an uncle who did this sort of thing when he built his house. Basically, he made a very big garage with a bathroom and a temporary bedroom and lived in it while he and his wife built their house attached to it. He stained the concrete floor and it looked a whole lot nicer than I expected it to.

Watch Road House. Patrick Swayze had a pretty nice setup. Plus, you get to watch Road House.

I have a friend who did this, about halfway through he said eff it and decided to make it their permanent residence. I lol'd at him when he told me, but it's actually very nice. Looks like a barn from the outside tho.

Do you guys like doing a lot of stuff after buying a house? Like, we seriously bought a finished home and Mrs wacky can't sit still. Lots of painting, buying house stuff, etc. Am I crazy for just wanting to relax the first month of buying our first home? I feel like many of these projects we're doing could wait.
