And sweeps versus his only two real competitors for the award.

OSU split with KU...Unless you are putting Fred Hoiberg, Chris Walker or Rick Barnes up for coach of the year in which case

Oh, that's right. I still say that unless Bill loses in Waco, the award should go to him.

Self did a great job as he always does, but KU was the unanimous choice to win the league.

2012-13 BIG 12 PRESEASON POLL

    Team (First-place votes)      Points
1.    Kansas (9)*   81
2.   Baylor (1)   63
3.   Oklahoma State   60
4.   Texas   58
5.   Kansas State   54
6.   West Virginia   45
7.   Oklahoma   34
8.   Iowa State   28
9.   Texas Tech   18
10.   TCU    9

Big 12 COY is oscar's to lose. Ford probably gets it if OSU wins their last two. And either one of those would be the correct choice over Self.

I wouldn't say Weber is a sure thing for CotY unless we somehow win a share of the title on Saturday. McGruder's gonna need a title and a special performance in the P66 to merit consideration. Otherwise, it's down to Smart and Mac, with the edge probably going to Smart because he has less talent around him.

All I want is a share of the title at this point. I'd give us a 40% chance.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

I wish they would give out an opposite CotY award. Drew would have that think locked up.

Why does being picked to win the league disqualify a coach for COTY?

It doesn't in the mocat book. But if there is a split title, and 1 coach was picked 1st and the other coach was picked 5th, i know who my vote would go to

Because apparently it's easy to win the league when you're everyone's Super Bowl.

I have heard more and more media types say COY the year should just go the guy who wins the league.  As boring as that sounds it does take into account the most important function for any college coach - recruiting.

Hugs is a strong candidate for that.  He talked a bunch of crap before the season about how they should have been picked higher.

I think bill has done excellent this yr, and depending on how deep you guys run,  it could be his best job ever (said same thing last yr).  That said,  there is something to be said for the fact that Bill's system was already in place and the majority of the contributors are 3-4yrs into that system and already understood each others roles.  That, imo, would be the main reason I would vote oscar once we split.

it's already been said but i'll say it again, any coach that loses to TCU should not win the award regardless of anything else that they may accomplish.

Don't they do this voting after the regular season?  Seems like Rod will need another big game-winning shot on Saturday to win this award, because players don't get rewarded for not hogging the ball, being a team player, etc.

Yeah, Rod needs to score at least 25 or hit the game winner.

Hopefully he can find his 3PT shooting touch again. Last 7 games, Rod is 5-29 (17%) from 3, including last night's 1-8.

He's 1-1 (100%) in dramatic buzzer beater 3PT shots, though. :gocho:

I think that most years, the award should go to the coach who actually wins the conference. There are some instances, like let's say maybe if Trent Johnson would have managed to win 8 Big 12 games with the roster he's inherited at TCU, where a coach can just do an amazing job and still deserve the award without actually winning the conference, though.

oscar has had an incredible year, but I think he's right behind Bill. Self has beaten the best teams in the Big 12. oscar is 0-2 vs KU and lost at ISU. Winning at OSU would improve my outlook on our season considerably. Bill lost a game at TCU, but won at KSU. That's miles better than winning at TCU and losing at KSU in my book, because I believe you are defined by who you beat more so than who you lose to.

soph pullen was robbed.  authority-justifiying people justify it with kstate's poor record, but those same people will vote for jackson over art, so eff them.

Yeah, I am not worried about Rod's shooting, but slightly concerned.   He has had good looks too.  Really like to see him make his 1st one of start 2-3 on Saturday.   We all remember what Rod did in the 2nd half vs the Pokes in Manhattan.
