why is this ksu hoops season so boring?

i haven't watched every ksu game, but i've caught bits and pieces of most. and wow, these games - the entire season, really - just seems totally boring. this is arguably the best ksu team in more than two decades (in terms of ranking, not necessarily on-floor talent), the team is tied for first in B12 race, and nobody cares.

it's strange. my theories, in order:

1. opponents are boring. TCU, TT, WVU, etc., are crappy and irrelevant. beating texas isn't fun anymore.
2. nothing to play for. NCAA berth was secured long ago, and ksu has no realistic chance to win regular season crown (see KU game last night)
3. oscar weber. he reminds me of luther van damm on the old TV show "Coach." somehow has solid reputation,  but at his core he is insecure, pathetic and a total loser.
4. games have sucked. nine of 12 conference wins have been by nine or more.

Its because we don't dunk enough.  I think all the advanced stats will back me up on that.

I think #3 is the real reason.  You never knew what Frank was going to do, so you had to watch.  With oscar, you know what he is going to do....stand there with his arms crossed.  BITB also kind of touched on this last week and tried to say it was because we didn't beat ku.  I disagree with that because the 09-10 team lost to ku three times, and I don't think anyone thought that season was boring.

As for me, I'm having fun.  Don't know how you couldn't.

Here's my two cents:

1.  Losing Frank sucked for the entire conference.  His personality and his brand were great for the Big 12, and especially fun for K-State fans.  Say what you want about his coaching abilities... Frank was entertaining.  oscar Weber just doesn't have the same sex appeal, obviously. 

2.  The Big 12 is a stale, patched together league that lost a lot of its swagger when Nebraska, Mizzou, A&M, and Colorado decided to leave.  All of the Texas teams are mediocre to sucky this season, so it makes the league seem even worse.

3.  K-State got swept by KU.  I know I'd be a little less enthusiastic about the season if KU had been swept by K-State (or Mizzou).  It always sucks losing to a rival, and I don't blame you guys for feeling that way.  At least we're both in position to tie for a Big 12 title, which is always great for the TSC spirit around here.

I think winning the Big 12 in football has made me care less about basketball.  Although it should just make it more fun, and I guess it has.  But it's like fun, not like so serious.  If we win, great, if we don't, well we already got our 'ship.

because deep down in places we don't talk about at parties, we all know we aren't going to win the conference.  we know who our daddy is.  the season is a muted hope.

Biggest reason is probably that its not a surprise any more.  First few years it was new and unexpected.  Now we kind of lost that momentum.  Then probably the reasons in SD's order. 

That said, I am still having a really good time.

To the general fanbase, there is no sex appeal to this team. That's largely due to the fact that the general fanbase is too dumb to know what we have in Shane and Angel, but Rodney doesn't bring that same energy and star power that guys like Jake, Jamar, Denis, and Beasley did. Even on mediocre teams like last year's, we had Frank to bring that sexy star power to our team. Frank Martin basketball at K-State was a brand, and people knew what we were about. Now that's gone, and oscar doesn't bring that.

Also, when you have a football season as exciting as ours was, combined with the general apathy surrounding oscar from the beginning, it just doesn't feel right.

The conference is runny poop and we got beat by KU twice.  The way they keep pulling out miracles is a pretty good indication of a pending KITN.  But it is nice to not suck entirely.

I enjoy the blowouts immensely.  They remind me of being on the other side of it.  They also remind me of getting worked up and worried every game.  It's nice to have "break" games where you can kick back, relax, and know you're still going to be tied atop the big 12 when the weekend comes.

Another thing is that K-State fans are becoming more accustomed to winning in hoops.  It's not as much fun once the initial "OMG we're good!" moments start to turn into "OMG we should be alone in 1st place!"
