I know you have all been waiting so patiently for my thoughts on this whole subject, so I will provide them for you.
The calls at the end of the game were ridiculous. I am 90% sure that was a charge on EJ and 75% sure there was no reach on Niang. I am also 100% that Withey fouled our, or should have, when they gave the foul to KY. Babb's 5th foul was also a joke.
Let's not pretend the whole game was not horribly officiated for both teams though, as has been the case for most NCAA games this year. At times it seemed like the refs called a foul because they felt there had not been a foul called for a while.
Looking at the game ISU had 3 less fouls than KU and some how managed to shoot 7 more FTs despite the fact they were jacking up threes all game. Of course the blown calls at the end of the game are magnified, like all end game calls are in close games, but let's not act like the bad officiating throughout the game went only towards KU. That is simply not true.
Don't forget that down the stretch ISU had plenty of chances to put this game away and failed to do so, while KU made plays to even put themselves in a position to have a last second officiating gaffe matter. If a team sets a school record for 3s in a game you would expect it to be a blow out, but that was not the case in this game. ISU played horrid defense and allowed KU to hang around, if not for a historic shooting performance by ISU this game would not have been close at the end of the game to begin with.
Overall it was a crazy game to watch, I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride and was confident KU would lose when the game got to the 4 minute mark in the second half.
