Look, every single person alive on planet earth agrees that oscar Weber is a HUGE awkward dork, and makes everyone cringe at the very sight of him. The sun is hot, ice is cold.

But, he is also proving to be some kind of December basketball turd polisher...two data points in a row equal a trend.

As a result of this two year trend,  we must now suspend "burn-it-down" as long as oscar keeps polishing.  Of course the instant that he falters, we must pounce with furious rage.  go cats.

WGAF about Dec basketball other than it's fun to win any game.  He better be better at Jan-March polishing, otherwise GTFO stands.

To be fair, he's a great defender/rebounder.  He's just terrible at scoring/ball skills.

one of the most common assumptions fans make, when observing a player who is clearly and obviously bad at part of the game, is that he must be symmetrically good at another aspect of the game.

Do stats not matter to you anymore?

Sorry, it was implied that the December efforts lead to later rewards.

Better than 14-4 in conference/2-1 in conference tournament?  The last time a KSU team put up those numbers in conference (prior to last year) was 1988.  Maybe you meant to say: WGAF about games from November through mid March?

Do stats not matter to you anymore?

i perceive him to be a good rebounder, even when you discount his contribution on the boards with the knowledge that he's scarcely asked to do anything except rebound.  the statistics indicate that as well.  i do not perceive him to be a particularly good defender, nor are there any stats that contradict my visual assessment.

I mean, for a big man, the only statistical defensive measurements are blocks and rebounds.  And statistics would indicate he's quite good at rebounding and acceptable at blocking shots.  You're correct that that there are no other stats which support/refute whether a player is a good defender.

Visually, I see a guy who rebounds well, is active around the rim, changes shots, and gets to loose balls that other bigs don't get to.  He's all over the f'n place.  But, yeah, stats won't back a lot of this up.

You won't have to.  If we get to the NCAAs there won't be a #BID to renounce.

But, don't worry, our chances of an NCAA birth are 50/50 at best.  IMO.

i agree that he's active.  i also think he's well above average on ball away from the basket for a big.

Read a pretty good article today basically saying that bringing our three d back to conf norm would provide approx 7 pts per 100 possesions more for our opponents and the author basically said that ppl need to be prepared for things to abg out in conf play.

Guy said that this is the secret to our success so far and that it won't last because math.

Pretty good assumption.  But, at the same time, I'm assuming that our FG% won't remain 283rd at 41%.  I'm hopeful that having a true PG like Jevon will help our overall offensive flow and free guys up for better shots out of the offense.

I'm already pretty invested. It will take a 25 point loss to change that.

only 4 teams have been more fortunate than KSU, in terms of opponents sucking at making 3's.

http://www.burntorangenation.com/2014/1/2/5263272/inside-the-numbers-big-12-hoops-preview-kansas-state-texas-tech-and

What worries me: Shooting, both that of Kansas State and its opponents. The K-State offense has not been particularly good this year. Among Big 12 teams, only TCU ranks lower in the Pomeroy offensive ratings. The reason is poor shooting. Kansas State has made only 30 percent of their three point attempts and 63 percent of their free throws. Both of those totals are costing the Wildcats.

Last year, Shane Southwell connected on 48-110 of his three point attempts; so far this season he is 15-52. Will Spradling, another solid shooter last year, is currently 18-57 from long range. The only Wildcat currently shooting a decent percentage from long range is freshman guard Marcus Foster, who has hit 35 percent of his threes.

Now, I think the shooting of Southwell and Spradling is likely to turn around. But even if it does, Kansas State doesn't seem to have enough fire-power. Weber's team will have to win with their D.

Which brings us to the following concern. Kansas State has held opponents to 0.90 points per possession so far this year. That is an outstanding number. But much of their success comes from the fact that opponents have made only 26 percent of their three pointers and have only hit 62 percent of their free throws; both of these totals fall in the bottom ten of D-I.

And both aren't likely to persist. Over the long haul, opponent three point percentage and free throw percentage tend to revert towards the mean. If these numbers do reach the mean, K-State will give up roughly 7 more points per 100 possessions.

By how much more than 7 points per 100 possessions have we been winning our games?
