about 20 minutes ago, there was an explosion and it felt like the windows of my apartment were going to shatter, and I looked out the window and saw that JJ's was engulfed in flames. Scary stuff.

Supposedly a car ran into the building, causing a gas leak and subsequent explosion. Hope people were out of there before the explosion.

Watching it on the news. Huge fire. Huge. Scary stuff considering the amount of traffic, business, and population immediately there.

Was walking my dog in prairie village and heard the boom clearly, sounded like a fort riley round.

the former gives hope that most had time to get out.

The latter gives pause as to size, as the fire is at 48th street and the guy felt his house shake at 57th.

Friend said it smelled like gas pretty bad a block away when she got home 5 min before explosion, then her apartment shook violently. Hopefully people realized not to stay in JJ's if it smelled that potent.

Lucky.

That said, how does anyone let a strong gas odor go on long enough for someone to complain and leave early. I mean, if you work in a kitchen and smell that heavy of a gas odor, it should ring some major alarm bells.
