See I can step back and say a guy like Smart, Burks @CU, or Jackson @BU are good players.  I don't just blindly hate them because of latent racism and school pride.

I can easily say Angel is a very good player.  Will only be getting better, but he is annoying to play against.  I am excited to see Tharpe get more run next year.  Not sure what to expect, but it should be entertaining.

A:TO is such a silly stat when you really think about it.

Why?

because they are pretty unrelated. I mean, why not points:turnovers?

People still can't figure out that Angel is incredible at basketball. Same thing happened last year.

It depends what you are asked to do really. I think they've always gone together because point guards traditionally were asked to handle the ball the majority of the time and to create for others in the offense and in doing so they are going to have some TOs.

I can see your point with the more modern adaption of point guards who also score, but I still think A:TO is a decent measure, but only when comparing points/combos to other points/combos (those that handle the ball the majority of the time).

Its nice, but I really don't care that much about Shane or Will and their A:TO ratios.

Primary talking points on phog.net where it's K-State all day everyday are:

-Empty Seats (really makes them feel good about themselves).

-Bad officiating helping K-State against WVU.

-DANGEROUS steps at Bramlage; you can hurt yourself people.

that's why it's stupid.  not because the categories are unrelated, but because it's a ratio and doesn't distinguish between 20 assists/10 tos and 2/1.

Meh. Just because its non comprehensive doesn't mean stupid, it just means non comprehensive.

Its also why the league stipulates min 3.0 assists per game in their chart, which is one good thing they do with their stats.

Assist-to-Turnover Ratio (Min. 3.0 assists/game)

another small problem with A:TO is the subjectivity of assists and turn overs by the official score keeper when compared to black and white stats like points and rebounds.

yeah, for both stats. I know aTm had an assist-happy score keeper a while back.

I wish they would credit "TO's caused" instead of steals. A player hits the ball into someone else's hands a fair amount, doesn't get a steal. Or when someone forces their opponent to make a bad pass and it goes out of bounds or something. That'd be awesome. And Angel would absolutely own that stat.

Meh. I think A/T is fine to reference as a complement to Assist totals and Assist%.

As for "why not points:TO," why not look at that too? No one's stopping you, and it's easy enough to compile from totals. :dunno:
