The detail I most remember about this is multiple mentions of poop on the street.

got lost in the tenderloin once (very similar to that guy, i was just exploring from the north at city hall) and saw 2 logs of poop during my journey.  both really long and of firm consistency, which surprised me because i wouldn't think someone shitting in the street would have the necessary nutrition for a healthy poop like that.

I saw human crap at least twice on my ten minute walk to work this morning. I almost stopped to take photos but decided against it.

Was someone trying to make a statement? Or does this happen a lot?

Maybe set up designated "area's/camps" to put all these people in until we can find a Final Solution?

Every morning the sidewalks downtown are power washed to get rid of the crap. The drought has brought water usage restrictions and fines that has people concerned that there will now be too much human crap everywhere.

How much would a public toilet or two cost?

There are at least two within a block of where I saw one pile of crap this morning. (In front of the Hyatt at Market and California).

It sounds like poop on the street may be the most San Francisco thing so far.

And, yeah, I've never seen anywhere near as many public toilets anywhere else, which is also kind of a poop on the street thing.

In July of 2012, an escalator at the Civic Center BART Station grinded to a halt. When work crews disassembled the ailing device, they discovered that an excess of human urine and fecal matter had gummed up the gears. So much so that the city was forced to call in a hazardous-materials team to remove the problem.

“We’d already seen almost half of the centers close,” Friedenbach recalled, “so we figured out how many pounds of feces the public facilities kept off the street.” Friedenbach and company estimated that the cost of cutting back or getting rid of drop-in centers altogether would be over 58,000 pounds of human feces on the streets of San Francisco. Unsurprisingly, the city backed down.

Mahoney's is one of two alley crews that are constantly engaged in steam-cleaning the streets. They work eight-hour shifts, five days a week, refilling their 250-gallon spray tank two or three times a day.

And they can't keep up.

i had no idea.  san franciscans should be ashamed and embarrassed.

if they can't handle their city then they should hand it back over and move somewhere else.

A Mexican restaurant named "Bandidos" was pressured into changing its name. I enjoyed some of the quotes this article:

http://sf.eater.com/archives/2014/09/11/bandidos_changing_its_name_after_racism_accusations.php

Quote
consulting chef Jamie Lauren commented that "I hate to call [Bandidos' cuisine] white people Mexican food, but it is,"

Quote
"It was never the most popular ethnic slur, but I'm familiar with that term being used as a slur from those old movies in the '30s and '40s, where all the villains were Mexican. Even some younger Latinos might think that think this is stupid, but it's because they never had to live with that. Older Latino activists fought so that name wouldn't be used."
