How did the neighborhood groups get so much power? Somebody in my neighborhood tried to mobilize residents to have the city mow the ditch and nobody was interested

I'm not sure how they initially gained power.

Now, at least, it's a group of politically savvy wealthy property owners who want to protect their property value. They really know how to appeal to their neighbors and influence politicians

the war on tech workers—as opposed to tech companies or policies— is not really a “class war.” Rather, it is about one group of predominately white people complaining about a similar demographic group that likes many of the same restaurants, bars, street festivals, and Samba classes that they do—but who makes more money.”

Breaking news from my kids' school. (This is 100% real, I swear to God)

Quote
This morning a number of parents became upset when they saw a gardener spraying a substance on our weeds. I want to assure you that this was not a chemical herbicide or pesticide. It was a product called "BurnOut II," a totally organic weed killer made of food-grade clove oil and citric acid.

I have spoken to the Maintenance, Operations & Facilities department. They have apologized for the upset this incident caused and they have agreed to notify us before they spray this product again, so that everyone knows this is a natural product.

Should you have any additional concerns, please contact the school office.

omg rusty.  it's fun to think about the fact that there were truly a "number" of people involved in causing the letter to be written, dictating the general message, typing it up, and approving it

Reading that made me slightly ragey.

On the other hand think how amazing that weed spray smells.

parents saw them spraying weeds?  I have no doubt it was one of the tree hugging yuppie kids that spotted the offense and snap chatted it to mommy on her iphone.

i've been here long enough that nothing in that last little news bit strikes me as unusual.
