You can also eat horse.

Looks like you won't be able to for much longer, though. :frown:

You can eat one.  It's just frowned upon.  Move to Korea if you would like to eat horse regularly.

I think if an animal has spent it's life in service to you, you shouldn't eat it.

If an animal has spent its life working to the benefit of others then it's off limits (horses, pack goats, working dogs, etc).  Dig a hole, bury it, put up a small marker or something if you want.

Hasn't a deer spent it's whole life in service and preparation of getting shot by some gun nut?

And even if it did, I'm not about to shoot some deer and then dig a hole and bury it.

How do pack goats work to benefit people?  (honest question)

Also, what are the difference between pack goats and the goats that people eat (cabrito)?  (also, honest question)

What if the horse was supposed to serve you but did a really shitty job and honestly just phoned it in most days?

Pack goats carry stuff so you don't have to.  Just google image search "pack goats."  They are pretty bad ass.

There are some differences in breeding, like I'm sure pack goats are bred to be strong and have endurance and be well mannered, whereas meat goats probably focus on getting big or getting big quickly or something like that.  It's really not about the breeding, to me, it's about the life the animal has lived.  If you bred a pack goat but left it in a field all day to get it fat to eat it that's fine.  But don't work him his whole life and then when he is no longer useful kill him and eat him.  Seems wrong.   :dunno:

This horse would get sold to the meat market or shot.

I'd say that's a pretty reasonable stance.

Does a dairy cow work really?  I would say no.  A horse or a goat or a llama for example, they are saddled and driven/riden, their day and task is defined for them, and they are under physical strain.  A dairy cow eats and loafs about at their leisure and twice a day spends some time in a stall getting fondled by stainless industrial equipment.
