I always trigger "wait for assistance " at the grocery store because I remove items from the bagging area too soon.

You IT and engineer grads can we not weigh the entire cart at checkout rather than individual items in the bagging area?

That would still stop SD from stealing coffee, right?

You know if you wait 5 seconds for the light to change you can then remove the items? How would you weigh the whole cart unless you installed a scale big enough to weigh it, and then have the data to have a correct weight for all purchased items, including quantity and variable weight for vegetables, fruits etc?

Just spitballing: scan all your items with a phone app; add a station wherever your bulk items are where you can weigh your fruit, etc. and it displays a barcode on a monitor that you can scan with your phone;  checkout is just putting your cart on a scale and subtract the average weight of a cart (be sure to remove any personal belongings from the cart).

Kroger stores had this a few years ago; the one here had a big scanner tool of their own we used instead of a phone app.  Not sure how it addressed theft in any way.  They discontinued it.
